<description>&lt;p&gt;I have an asaragus patch in my back yard. The thin spears are from the younger or very old plants.  Rule of thumb is don&apos;t pick any spears thinner than a pencil to let your young plant mature well and vigourously. And, as with everything, freshest is best.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

<description>&lt;p&gt;Huh, I never knew thin asparagus were older, but now it makes sense (or so I tell myself).

And with the flan recipe - you could garnish it with something to mask the messiness of taking it out of the ramekin.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
