The Revolving Door at Law & Order

2006_05_milenagovich.jpgAha, the cast changes we've been wondering about: The Hollywood Reporter says Dennis Farina is leaving, while Conviction's Milena Govich will come on board. And since Govich played an ADA on the now-cancelled Conviction, she'll probably be playing an ADA on Law & Order. Lucky for her to get another season of work, but L&O will be on Friday nights at 10PM (GASP!), moving from Wednesdays at 10PM for the first time ever, so some people think NBC has moved there to die. Gothamist thinks au contraire as Law & Order SVU used to be on then (and we remember the good ol' Fridays when The X-Files was on at 9PM and then Homicide was on at 10PM). And maybe Govich's ADA character, Jessica "From the wrong side of the tracks" [the elevated train tracks?] Rossi, won't be that lucky - the lady ADA's have a mysterious way of leaving every so often.

But what to make of Farina's departure? We're not too upset, because while we enjoy Dennis Farina's acting, we never quite took to his Detective Joe Fontana, though we did dig his blowhard tactics. We think the choices for producer Dick Wolf are either another old veteran or even a female cop - think Cagney or Lacey!

And we remember Govich from being the duplicitous hooker on Rescue Me (poor Lou!) and Gaby, the granola-y girl who breaks up with Tom on the first episode of Love Monkey (yes, we love Love Monkey, too).

Jerry (RIP) had super white teeth, too!

How about Dennis Franz? That would be incredible. Failing that, Zach Morris!

Oh and I was just starting to get into the Farina character!

How did ADA Borgia get axed? (I haven't been watching faithfully.)

Someone help me out with an extra spot on one of the Law and Orders (or is it Laws and Orders?)

What is NBC thinking putting Law & Order in the infamous time slot of death?
And did anyome catch Milena Govich on Rescue Me last night? Quite funny.

Milena Govich is teh hawt. I just did a fist-pump while reading this post.

Sadly, most of the rest of the Conviction cast was expendable (definitely the writers), so while I lament that they didn't develop the show more, I totally understand why things were done this way. This is a good move, even if it doesn't work out. Think of it this way: Govich, on her worst day, beats Elisabeth Rohm by a wide margin.

They need to figure out what to do with J. August Richards, though. He showed a lot of promise as an ADA. (perhaps it's finally time to get rid of Casey-failed-the-Bar on SVU?) Also, some people on the TWoP boards speculated that Stephanie March's Alex Cabot character was ambitious enough to try to run for office down the line... well, that might work as a show concept, if Dick Wolf is adventurous enough.

I really hope that this is true...Jack and Arthur need another kick ass ADA to stand up to them. Borgia was such a wimp...McCoy works best against an ADA who on occaision, lets us know, he doesn't scare her one bit. Thats how all the others were, until mealy mouth Borgia. I bet Rossi can handle what Branch and McCoy dish out, and slam them right back! And, what is Jim Steele going to think about his commitment phobia pseudo girlfriend, getting the promotion to being McCoy's assistant? Is he going to think, "hey, I should have gotten that job! Must be because she's a woman-McCOy likes his assistants to be of the female variety, and pretty...I'm filing a discrimination suit!"
Seriously, I really hope that we see Rossi on the mothership as Jack's assistant. She was tough, smart, cared, knew her law, stood up for herself and the victems, and on occasion, was funny. And, she and McCOy seem to share some similar family history (drunken abusive father). This should work out ok.

I may have missed the episode, but how was Farnia's character able to afford such expensive clothes and fancy cars? On the take, mafia 'gonnections? And yeah, J. August Richards needs a better show; how about one where he plays a lawyer who kills vampires...oh wait.
