Rescue From Summer TV

We may have to contemplate many of a cliffhanger this summer, but we are grateful for the return of the NYC fire department black comedy (or is that drama with mordant wit) Rescue Me. Last season, we followed the escapades of firefighter/ alcoholic/ pill-addict/ cheating husband Tommy Gavin to the point of being emotionally wrecked by the season finale where his son was killed by a drunk driver and a violent revenge is planned. Also, when firefighter Lou gets totally taken by the scam artist - we could see it coming, but we still felt awful. And Gothamist will need Rescue Me because the new slate of summer TV programming looks like total crap.

The NY Times reviewed the first few episodes of the season, noting that it still "continues to cast a serious spell." And Zap2It visited the set, finding out some developments for the new season.

rescue me from this show.
only reason why it's on is because the shield and thief finished up.
and, it's on cable so who really cares.
it's cable, nuff said.
anyway, with DL's luck it will be cancelled like his other projects.
another wannabe cop/fireman just cuz he's irish,
please no more, i'm dying here.

I love the show - it's gritty and stupid and funny and sad.

Easily the best show on television. He's Irish and makes a firefighter show, so that's bad? Get over yourself and go back to weep in your pillow that Will and Grace is cancelled.

We'll stick with Gothamist on this one. The episodes may be over the top, but we'll suck it up as good t.v. drama.

All best wishes,
New York Inquirer

did you read the NYT review?
the show sucks, it's on cable,
no one watches.
more wannabes, jeezus.
hey, guess what? the 9/11 bandwagon be over.

Richard Huff in today's Daily News also gives it good reviews and four stars.
This is most likely the best show on TV and apparently a good deal of the firefighting stuff is based on true stories.
The show is a great mix of comedy and drama and some damn fine acting. Plus it films in New York.

The end of last season, with the kid...KILLED me.

great, another tv show that's filmed in nyc.
does DL sing I'm an asshole in the show?
oh, where are the black firefighters? they want to work just like any other people in this city.
go corey booker.

"On another day...Come on, Come on!!"
I can't wait until that theme song starts tonight!

The first episode I saw was the NYPD/NYFD hockey game. I'm a huge hockey nut, and I've been hooked on this show ever since. Dennis Leary rules!

Yes, it is all a big Irish conspiracy involving drinking large amounts of Guinness, listening to bagpipe music and drunkenly singing Danny Boy. There is also a secret handshake and decoder ring.

learn your history.
there were other people here before you, yet you reaped the benefits. (yes, You, it made your life easier so it's still YOU)

How about, I dunno, trying to read a book?

It's the same media that NEVER mentioned Muslims' hatred of Israel as a possible motive for 9/11.
