- Early this morning, Xavier Nady underwent emergency appendectomy surgery and was later put on the 15-day DL by the Mets. Nady's unfortunate situation is good news for Lastings Milledge, arguably the best player in the Mets farm system. Milledge was called up from AAA and will start in tonight's game, playing right field and batting 8th. The 21 year-old Milledge was hitting .291 with 32 runs, 4 home runs, 19 RBI and 32 walks. The young outfielder also had 8 steals and 42 strikeouts in the 50 games with the Norfolk Tides.
- Former Yankee and future Hall of Fame pitcher Roger Clemens signed a one-year contract with the Houston Astros today. The Astros, Clemens' last team, most recent team are reported to have signed Clemens for $3.5 million a month, which will work out to about $10 million for the season.
UPDATE: ESPN reports that the Newsday article is incorrect, with denials from The Rocket's agent and the Astros.
- And no matter which side of the fence you down on for a NASCAR race for Staten Island, there's an organization for you. Pro-track people have Staten Island for NASCAR (we wonder if they are fans of Scott Wimmer, the current driver of the #4 car) while anti-track people have Defeat NASCAR. Not that anyone would do this, but going on website alone, Gothamist would have to go with the pro-NASCAR side. And while we understand what Defeat NASCAR is going for, but calling themselves SCAT (Staten Island Citizens Against the Track) doesn't make us think about moving along, but of feces.

WNBC mentioned at 6 that Clemens is going to sign with the Astros.
As for NASCAR, it is one of the most stupid non-sports known to human kind. Watching the traffic cameras of the Cross Bronx is more intresting than watching stupid Bubbas waste gas and pollute for no rational reason. (The plan for the Staten Island Bubba Racing track would destroy wetlands.) On the up side a good deal of natrual selection takes place with the drivers and wannabes, despite the fact that most Bubba Racing fans would be against Darwin's work.
And there are these annoying ads about the Bubba Racing track in the Poconos "just 90 miles away" - not far enough! You need to keep such things in hick states.
Is is fascinating that people like Toby are some of the most hate filled people in America.
