Hot Sake - Food News You Can Use

2006_03_food_Hot Sake2.jpg- Burger tips for the summer, posted pre-Memorial Day by A Hamburger Today

- Some Fresca love over on Slashfood. And yes, they do make Tab – it's an energy drink now.

- Bruni Digest on the big Frank road trip fast food sprint from last week.

- And this digest is sure to be a must-read, irregular read for those of us up to our eyeballs in this food thing. (Times Select is required, unfortunately)

- Sure to be an interesting read, this book, examining the plight of the Patagonian Toothfish, is a cautionary tale for Atlantic Grill set. (via Saute Wednesday)

- Planning a trip to L&B Spumoni Gardens? Not so fast, warns A Brooklyn Life, "it's not very good and is definitely not worth the trip unless you are taking that trip soley [sic] for nostalgia purposes only."

  • Ha, so ordering more than one topping is unsophisticated, even at a place where the toppings are canned--very interesting! As for the cheese, its lightness was not the problem--it was the crust, which is the building block of any good pie. I had supposed that pizza would be the "intelligent" choice at a pizza joint, but apparently not!

P.S. I will agree that the end slices were the part of the pie to pull from.

    channel seven did a piece on L & B,

apparently they have an abusive delivery guy (owner?).

    roughed a guy up.

  • and btw the cognescenti always order an "end piece" of the pizza -- except a few old ladies i know who like the mooshad center squares.

TaB and TaB Energy are two different drinks.

    Viva la TaB!

  • it is very nearly always a mistake to order mushrooms on pizza if you are not at a 12-buck-and-something-individual-pie-artisanal-pizza place or in certain regions in italy. indeed ordering more than, perhaps, one topping is the sign of, um, let us say, an unsophisticated approach. indeed, if i were to eat pizza with good quality fresh mushrooms, i would more than likely eschew cheese altogether. this is the italian approach.

there are about a dozen good things on the menu at sg -- the spuomoni for one and the sicilian pie. that pie does not cater to the very american taste that deems more -- double cheese, as if! -- toppings the better. it is much closer to homemade italian american type pizza.

if i were in brooklyn, it's not the first pizza place at which i would eat (neither would difara's btw), but it's a very good if one (i) knows what to order (zucchini sticks, i don't think so) and (ii) understands the type of food they are serving (this will of course result in more intelligent choices -- escarole in garlic and oil eg).
