Last Night’s Action: Yanks and Mets Rebound Against The Dregs Of The League

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpgTom Glavine got his eighth win of the season, retiring the first fifteen batters he faced as the Mets beat the Marlins 7-4. David Wright who missed Friday’s game with back-spasms had a perfect day at the plate going 4-4 with two doubles. Billy Wagner came in and got the last two outs of the ninth for his 11th save.

Gothamist was beginning to wonder if Kelly Stinnett could hit anything. Coming into Saturday’s game, Stinnett was hitting .163 and looked completely lost at the plate. Lucky for him, the Yankees are playing the Kansas City Royals this weekend. Stinnett went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs as the Yankees rebounded to beat Kansas City 15-4.

While thrashing the Royals is hardly anything to get excited about, the Yankees did receive some good news on Saturday. Jaret Wright’s groin injury has healed enough for him to make his start on Sunday. The way things have gone so far this season, New York will probably suffer another injury tomorrow, but getting though a game without another player going on the DL is an accomplishment these days.

The Yankees finish their series with Kansas City today and then head to Detroit for four games with the league-leading Tigers.

While David Wright certainly had a great day, I am sad to say no home runs were involved. 4 for 4 (2 doubles), 2 RBIs, 1 run. Good to see him doing so well after his day off. Go Mets!

Thanks, Nick, forgot to double check my facts.
