Did SNL's Bill Hader get some free gear?
Johnny Paparazzi seems to have stalked every since celebrity that was reported to be there. Seriously, everyone star and the entire cast of SNL is carrying a MacBook and a iPod Hi-Fi. We're starting to think that they were bribed.
And don't forget to relive the incident with our three absurdly long posts:
Hark, the Apple Store Draws Nigh
Fifth Avenue Apple Store Frenzy
Apple Store Aftermath
Semi-related: on Friday, June 2nd, we'll be sponsoring the 7th NYC Photobloggers event at the Apple Store in SoHo. They just renovated their theater with a super-high definition projector (1600px resolution, and more lumens than you can shake a stick at!)

did anyone see that marriage proposal in the timelapse!?
Thank GOD. I have never been so bored by one topic EVER!!!!
is that porn on that guy's laptop?
Thank God your (and the rest of the press's) Apple fellatio is finished. Honestly, I have no idea why such an evil corporation (monopolistic, 100% closed and proprietory, obsessed with secrecy, lawsuits against bloggers and fans) is such a media darling.
I think Gothamist just likes to put up controversial topics since lots of comments = more page/ad views.

Where do you think they should put an Apple Store first in Brooklyn - Williamsburg or Park Slope?

Are you talking about Microsoft?
Funny thing: When I see a story on Gothamist that doesn't interest me, I just ignore it, as I do about 90-95% of the time. Something must be seriously wrong with these people who desperately need to complain about Apple and Gothamist stories on Apple. Seek professional help.
And BTW, the first Brooklyn Apple store would be in Atlantic Yards.
The goods the celebrities walked out with were complimentary according to the few SNL'ers I spoke with. Check the comments on my post at Internet Zillionaire for more scoops.
Holy shit! I went to the apple store at 4ish and at the bottom it's upskirt perv nation. I got a whole bunch of pics of girls panties. Awesome job apple! now here comes the good part. I go upstairs and who is standing and talking outside but mr. Mockturtleneck himself, steve jobs. He was talking to some other old dude but it was weird cause he was right outside the apple store and everyone pretty much ignored him. I guess he just looks like an old geezer and also his jeans were kinda dark cause he always usually wears light jeans with the M-neck. But here is where it gets fruity. I mean he gets fruity. The dude started eyeballing me and giving me the come hither. Freaked me out. Steve Jobs eyefucking you is gross. I jetted the hell out of there.
hmmm.... Steve Jobs loves Mancock Juice! hahahhaahah. Apple users are fags.
Did he ask you for some johnny cakes?
extra mancock juice.
popp...hey, maybe Steve could've hooked you up with a free Macbook. Also, put those upskirt shots on Flickr when you get a chance?
I was prepared to be blown away by the 57th street store. The cube is really awesome, and looks great in the plaza. But the store is just, well, a store.
The most disappointing part for me was that there is only one place to sit -- a small bench in the middle, where all the nerds like me fight over precious spots to blog LIVE FROM THE MAC STORE.
The best part about the Soho store is that the second level is dominated by the theater area, where you often see people just Mac'ing out on the free wifi while yet another Final Cut Pro demo is going on. Nothing comparable is at the 57th St store.
My guess is that if they had a theater in the 24 hour store, people would just go there at 3am and hang out with their nerd friends, playing on Second Life. At least, that's what I'd do.
Finally! Apple has opened a store! I hope they do well selling their computers there! Why didn't they think of doing this earlier?
maybe it has been said already, but what I find most interesting about this whole thing is that Apple singlehandedly can alter the way New Yorkers never shop. the city that never sleeps? i work the overnight shift and frankly, i was depressed when i realized just how few options there really are really late at night - to eat and to shop (and yes, loiter).
bars not withstanding, eating late is acceptable if you have the money for the quality diners and places like jaffe cafe and round the clock, but if you're like me with extremely limited resources, you're screwed.
anyhow, my guess is that this might be the highest end retailer anywhere to go 24/7. and that's a big deal. you might expect this from walmart
(which actually backed off its 24 hours in my hometown after a few years of it)
but mostly, the store is fairly high end stuff. it being an underground store probably greatly helps it in staying secure late at night. the fact that apple stores are known to have their own singles scene might even give it a whole new sheen. i can envision many craigslist casual/semicasual/even platonic encounters starting from the friendly confines there - by design.
more than anything i hope apple is successful in the late night hours here and they really do raise the bar in retailing in this city.
