Look at Madonna who is about 3000x more famous that Britney - and as far as I recall, she has not once been accused of being a bad mother. Whoever said that Britney treats her baby as an accessory was right on. She holds her son like a freaking Louis Vuitton bag for chrissake. It's not like she doesn't know press will follow her everywhere! Take some precautions lady! Lord help us all if Jessica Simpson ever realizes her dream of opening a Mexican Orphanage. Scary thing is - she'd probably be a better Mom since a) she has better taste in men b) she's be smart enough to let a nanny do all the work and just pose with it for photo-ops. Sad, but true.

Also I think a lot of the harsh criticism is a direct result of the "blonde bimbo" image she worked so hard to cultivate during her career. Now it's coming back to bite her.

Now you know, why Democrats lost the elections last time. Democrats have either no baby due to birth control and safe sex practices or 1 baby that they take care of. Republicans fuck like crazy and pop out kids like there is no tomorrow. Now we have Republican "trust our president" Britney with 1 child and a half child on the way and you compare that with Maggie Gylenhaal with 1 child on the way and do the math. 2 votes for britney vs. 1 for maggie. who wins the election? Bush.

Well said, sooz and Tim N.. It seems Britney has brought these problems on herself. Most new parents (celebrity or not) take the time to learn how to properly take care of their babies -- and if they don't, hopefully they at least have nannies or whatever to help them out. However, apparently Britney's too busy whining about all the media attention (which, I grant you, must be annoying) to actually try to become a better mother. Besides that, there are plenty of other celebrities in the media spotlight who've spawned and somehow managed NOT to drop their kids, to drive with their kids on their laps, etc.

As a parent, I can agree with yourmom... to a point. Certainly, no job in the world is more overwhelming than being a new parent, and its made especially hard when paparazzi buzz around you like so many dung flies. But... it is hard to feel sympathy for someone who can afford a fleet of au pairs, an experienced nanny, and (I'm assuming) a Baby Bjorn. If you're going out with the kid and you're carrying too many things, then put something else down! It seems too many times that the kid is an afterthought. That's not new parenting, it's bad parenting. I would think if she were interested in being a good mother she would find ways to get better at it. This is a lot of incidents. And what's worse is that now they are taking on a life of their own, so the paparazzi will only get worse, waiting for the next baby drop.

Yes...and no, Yourmom. Yes, all first-time mothers are allowed a huge learning curve. And parenting should be pass/fail not A - F. But Mama Brit is close to getting a fail. This is not a teacup chihuahua here. Babies are not accessories. A basic childcare course taken before childbrth usually lays down the law pretty simply involving a) car seats and their proper use. b) Sunscreen and over-exposure on fragile baby skin c)Testing all baby equipment - like highchairs for adequate safety and oh yes! Not wearing 3 inch espadrilles and saving your iced drink when your child is in your arms!!!! Sorry. One f***up is a blip on the radar. Two is worrisome. Three is a pattern. I don't know if she is distracted by her failing marriage or so spoiled by others making her everyday decisions that she has lost all common sense, but she is missing a few vital pieces to her maternal tool kit...and she aughta get them soon. For her PR sake if nothing else!
