Well Dressed Man Stabs Dry Cleaner

2006_05_meurice.jpgThe manager of an East 57th Street dry cleaning store was stabbed by a "nattily" dressed man yesterday morning. The victim, Louis Luciano, had opened the Meurice Garment Care when a man came in and asked for some tailoring (conflicting reports about whether it was for a button to be sewn or for pants to be shortened). Luciano explained they didn't do tailoring - only for the man to demand money as he held a knife. Luciano handed over a couple hundred dollars, but the man yelled "That's not enough!" and drove a 4-inch knife into Luciano's stomach. The Post makes a point about Luciano's build being what saved him (the Post describes him as "burly" while the Daily News referred to his "round belly") plus the fact he didn't take the knife out, which is a First Aid basic.

Luciano graciously said that he was glad he was stabbed and not the female co-worker who usually has the morning shift (he switched in order to make a doctor's appointment). The robber is still on the loose. The Meurice Garment Care hadn't installed a surveillance camera.

When they catch the guy, make him inhale some PERC for a few hours...and no oxygen...

dear JO Mamm,

why? ... why must you behave that way? are you a twelve year old trying to stir thing up?

I wouldn't say pulling the knife back out is a first aid basic. You could do more damage. Luciano was pretty tough to keep that thing in there!

since when does "nattily" mean "well-dressed?" Quite the opposite i thought.

Eric, let me guess....CUNY graduate ?

who's JO MAMM and vanessa?

by the way: PERC = perchloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene = carcinogenic solvent used as cleaning agent during dry cleaning. the use of these solvents for over 50 years has created huge environmental problem across the country. can seep through concrete and migrate to the subsurface, polluting groundwater. if you care, support dry cleaners who have changed over to bio-friendly non-chlorinated solvents, like DX2000.

homeopt:

As someone who earned her B.A. at CUNY (and is currently pursuing a M.S. there, too), I found your comment inflammatory and unnecessary.

Instead of educating Eric about the meaning of the word "nattily", you made a character attack against an institution (that Eric may or may not be affiliated with, I might add), rather than addressing the topic at hand.

nisey79, turn on the Comedy Channel and just chill for a couple of hours, ok ?

Eric - the Gothamist "editors", Jen and and Jake went to Columboa, and as you can see by their posts, they make multiple spelling and grammar mistakes, so it seems you need to check yo'self.

Columbia and NYU at this point are simply names you pay to have on your transcript; you can get ajust as good of an education at Hunter (and sometimes better) for a fraction of the price, especially in the graduate programs.

Hmmm... I remember seeing a "nattily" dressed man in the village a couple of weeks ago. He was a pretty weird guy, I must say.
