Number Three With a HONK HONK

An auto club, AutoVantage, found the NYC ranks third out of major U.S. cities for road rage. Considering that L.A. is fourth (number 1 is Miami, followed by Phoenix; Boston is 5th), that is quite an accomplishment. Yet it makes perfect sense. Roads are narrow, there's double-parking galore, pedestrians are pretty aggressive, out-of-towners try to turn on red - and throw in all the buses and taxis. So, who knew people were so angry in Phoenix?

Remember: Private cars cause the most traffic. (A friend once told us his Midwestern relatives drove into NYC to visit him - they made it through the Lincoln Tunnel and then turned around because they couldn't take it!) And the cities with the least amount of road rage are Minneapolis, Nashville, St. Louis, Seattle and Atlanta.

Living in the most expensive zipcode in the city, I came very close to moving to the zipcode that has seen the highest increase in real estate values but was turned off by the presence of the Lincoln Tunnel.

After living in Phoenix for a few years, I can absolutely believe the road rage in Phoenix (and being a native NYer, I would even go so far as saying the drivers ARE far worse out there. You haven't seen anything until you've seen road rage on a freeway wtih a speedlimit of 80!

Homeopt - we get it, you live in the most expensive zip code in the city, you've said it in the comments of about 3 or 4 different posts today. Get over it.

Atlanta with little road rage?? Not when I lived there (but that might just have been me honking and yelling at all the morons who don't know how to make a left).

Where is this picture from?

waitaminute. what exactly is the most expensive zipcode in the city? and how the fuck would you rate that shit? I mean what's more expensive than 10013 or 10012? Isn't the most expensive area code?

my girlfriend's family are coming to visit over memorial day weekend, they are driving in from illinois in a minivan. i am kinda pissed about it on principle (i wouldnt dare say this or invoke her wrath) because a) they will likely drive like wet turds while here and b) we have enough bad drivers to begin with and c) i think they will enjoy their stay much less as a result. oh well. i know its not worth bringing it up. the sad part it, i wont get to say "it told you so"

(sorry for the misspellings)

After years of observation the worst drivers are those with either out of state (PA, NC, and CT seem to be the worst of the commonly seen plates) or diplomatic plates.

Jersey is pretty damn bad..people jumping out of cars...had my windshield spit upon once..I see the "finger" at least once a day..people throwing change out the window at 80 miles an hour...everyday there is something new..I think if I had a webcam in the car and another blog I would never run out of content

I try to take the train as much as possible..and walk..

I say everyone can drive a stockcar and just smash each other on the way to work..this will eliminate stress..

Someone threw change at my windshield in slow-moving traffic on the LIE once. Scared the crap out of me.

I also had two parents scream obscenities at me once, telling me I was crazy -- all this while their two small children stared at me wide-eyed from the back seat. Gee, nice example for the kids!

My vote for the worst drivers in the city: livery cab/car service drivers. Absolutely no respect for anyone -- driver, cyclist or pedestrian -- whatsoever.

Congestion pricing should get rid of a lot of these types of problems - the worst drivers IMO are from NJ, CT and Westchester - they just don't know how to drive in the city.

If the city is short of money, why don't they put cameras at all the intersections and fine the hell out of the morons who block the box?

Whoever doesn't know that lights turn red needs their license taken away.
