Looks like the rumors were true: The Falls Bar is no more. We walked by last night, and the neon sign was gone. A small group of protesters stood outside, but the bar was empty. Looks like the Imette St. Guillen case finally caught up with the Dorian family. Hard to feel all that upset. [Related: WCBS is reporting that the State Liquor Authority is revoking the Falls' license-- although that might be a foregone move at this point.]
UPDATE: Curt Gathje from Zagat wrote in: "FYI, just spoke with The Falls on the phone and they are still open." So it looks like rumors of their untimely demise were a bit premature.

It is good that that place is going down, but I think they may be trying to lessen their exposure to a lawsuit.
I noticed WCBS had an exclusive on the story on the early evening newscast. Scott Weinberger has been doing a good job on the whole story, really beating the bushes and working sources. He was the one who got the Littlejohn interview. They have been ahead of the curve on a lot of this.
But now where will women go to get drunk, escorted home by the bouncer and then viciously raped and killed? Huh? that was the only place in NYC.
THE FALLS had three convicted felons working for them on Lafayette Street. Darryl Littlejohn got his bouncer job because of a shady FALLS employee, an ex-con named Qwan; Qwan was on vacation the night Imette St. Guillen was raped and strangled by Littlejohn. Since the DORRIAN guys have owned bars in Manhattan for decades, how come they are not a bit more choosy about which men they hire, eh? And how many more bar owners do NOT screen their employees either? Shudder . . . .

Well... big props to the midnight screaming protest guy! I think this outcome is more than worth the nights we spent listening to him.
Of course I wish my time at 222 Laf had not included this entire tragic situation, but at this point I am very grateful just to see The Falls shutting its doors.
touche, mae... i was *convinced* the dorrians had a bloody (red) hand (pun intended) in organized crime!!!! i wonder how the property transfered from zaccaro to giovanetti to the dorrians? given the latter's longstanding involvment in speakeasies, etc. i would not be surprised there was some underhandedness in this. yup, they fear a lawsuit! i hope they get it up theirs this time!!
Good. There is some justice in this case. Dorrian is a real scumbag.
Noticed the sign was down sometime last week. Glad the rumors are true.
I guess you can make your big wads of cash off the thirsts of underage drinkers (and their dad's credit cards) for only so long before the clock starts ticking.
Thank you to whoever got this place close. And a message to Dorrian: Stay away from bars. Find a new line of work.
I walked by this morning and noticed the same. They painted the front in a green-ish tone and must have changed some of the decoration out front b/c the place looks different. Not that I've ever (or will ever) step inside.
they did nothing wrong, it's unfortunate that the actions of one individual caused a good tax paying business to be shut down. I'm sure the closing will make sure no rapes ever occur again ever. Lets sue the beer makers too for selling them alcohol in the first place and the clothing company that allowed the rapist to go outside unclothed to begin with while we're at it...
I am glad people see fit to protest the important things
Mae - Qwan was on vacation. But that does not mean that they was away. Remember he and Littlejohn were in cahoots.
It is comon in NYC to close an establishment and open it under a different name, but.....the same owners. I agree that they are trying to take a low profile at this time and.... "You can not have my money if I am not working." Who will get sued. Who will pay the lawsuit? They were probably busy hidding assets and liquidating everything. They will probably file chapter 11 soon.
if the girl hadn't provoked the guy with racist comments, she would still be alive. i have no problem with the outcome of that evening.
homeopt, either you have a really bad grasp of humor or you are a truely dispicable person.
Max - I think homeopt is trying say he was there. He knows how it all went down. How else would he know the young girl provoked the guy.
So we can add coward to scumbag in the list of homeopt's distinguishing characteristics?
I think every single St Guillen-related post on Gothamist has degenerated into aggressively ridiculous comments from people like homeopt.
If you give him attention he just gets what he wants. Better to just know on your own that he's a pathetic infant than to get yer blood all angried up at him.
