KEXP NYC

2006_05_arts_kexp.jpgOne of our favorite stations to listen to all day is KEXP, run out of Seattle, and through the magic of online streaming - heard worldwide. This week they're in New York broadcasting (as they are twice a year), putting on some shows and having many in-studio guests. They're in Philip Glass' old studio which is now Gigantic Music, where their musical guests include:

The Mugs, Bill Janovitz, Favourite Sons, Ghostland Observatory, Goldfrapp, French Kicks, Ambulance Ltd, We Are Scientists, Dylan in the Movies, Land of Talk, Dr. Dog, Elvis Perkins and MORE.

Most spots are filled now, but you can sign up to see some of these in studios live, right here. If you are stuck in your cubicle, you can listen online. In addition, they'll be bringing the noise outside of the studios and into the Delancey tomorrow night. The show will feature: Ghostland Observatory with Favourite Sons and the Mugs (but sadly, not Norah Jones). Buy tickets here.

Related: We interviewed KEXP deejay John Richards years ago during one of their visits here.

  • I love KEXP. That is all.

    Everyone should listen to WOXY!

Independent rock and roll since 1983. It's the best radio station around, run by really great people. They also have a vintage alternative rock station.

They are listener-supported, but to get a feel for it, they have a free stream for new listeners.

Everyone has their favorite streaming radio stations. My two favorite are:

CKUA (ckua.org)--from Alberta, Canada. Indy music, folk and celtic and a wonderful musicology show on weeknights at 11 PM Eastern time.

KTUH (ktuh.org)--from Honolulu. Also features indy-label music. Also has fine Reggae, Brazilian and Hawaiian music programs (yes, the Hawaiian music program, with a Hawaiian-language DJ, featuring some hip music from the 50th State).

    Check their schedule for times.
