I called Dr. John Mucciolo
Director, Hunter College Campus Schools
Principal, Hunter College High School
Phone Number: 212-860-1406

and told him I'd be withdrawing my donation to the school this year.

so stupid. the administration at my high school did the same thing this year with our senior polls...apparently they found categories like "biggest feet" and "best excuses for everything" offensive?

Well, HCHS and Stuy kids are really self-aggrandizing, but in my opinion the elite boarding schools take the cake. I'd rather deal with arrogance and intellectual elitism than arrogance and class-based elitism. But that's just me, HCHS 1993.

1. HCHS goes from 7th to 12th so Dahlia was there.
2. Bathrooms ALWAYS had the scribbling. A lot of it was like the yearbook jokes.
3. That picture is of the 94th street side, going from Park to Madison (schoolyard is in back.)
4. Please with the Stuyvestant. They used to ask us not to take the test so we wouldn't screw up your curve.
5. Samantha has a point.

Is there a more self-congratulatory group of people in the world than graduates of Stuyvesant, Hunter College HS, etc.?

when i was at hunter (class of '97, the back page was cut off of all the yearbooks during my sophomore (?) year - there was a cartoon that makes these jokes look like the most innocent things around. involving a teacher and some young female students if i remember correctly...this seems way over the top.

and say what you want about our bathrooms, but 1/3 of my class went to an ivy...must be up there with the prep schools for sure.

right, because quality of education and bathroom cleanliness have gone hand in hand since the dawn of time. I mean, of course hunter is inferior to stuyvesant (03!) but saying it's not a good school because you've got a problem with writing on walls is pretty wack.

The "elite" label's reinforced by the media--the Wall Street Journal's ranking of Hunter as the top public feeder school in the country for Ivy League colleges, for instance.

I don't know why the media keeps hyping Hunter College HS as an "elite" school. I attended night courses in there while a student at Hunter College because they had run out of classrooms at Hunter College's main campus on 68th street and I have to say: The high school's bathroom walls --on every floor --are full of graffiti. Worse, most phrases were grammatically incorrect and simple words were often misspelled...

HCHS administration pulled something like this in 1993. IIRC, it was because of the words "cock diesel" appearing on the back cover (a parody of the Charles Atlas sand-kicking ad starring Flex Mentallo). So, they ended up distributing the yearbooks with the back portion of the cover peeled off. How lame. But, an enterprising student obtained those discarded back covers and sold them, so most students were able to attach them back to their yearbooks with some kind of sticky plastic thingie.

I have the limited edition F&G yearbook, too. I keep it on the same shelf as my other yearbooks.

That's not a picture of Hunter College High School. The current school sits between 94th & 95th on Park Ave. It's modeled after the armory at the other end of the block (on Madison). This unique design has earned it the nickname "The Brick Prison."

Is the picture you have of the original building or of one down near 68th street?

This isn't the first time the yearbook has been in trouble - in 92-93 the back cover ran an unapproved cartoon which was physically cut from each book before distribution.

That's not a picture of HCHS, its a picture of Hunter College.

I graduated HCHS in 2000, and although I can't say off the top of my head, I bet it was a little offensive - but, who cares?

Why are we shocked that it is filled with high school humor?

Hey, second to last paragraph: "There's no copyright infringement, no libel, no privacy invasion - it's high school humor. It is what it is. And that is not a sufficient justification for censorship," the executive director of the Student Press Law Center, Adam Goldstein, said. The Virginia-based organization consults with student publications across the country, including the "Annals."

Yep.

"Did you hear about the constipated mathematician? He worked it out with a pencil."

hehe

Offensive? Those jokes are pretty harmless. They aren’t even making fun of any individual students, let alone teachers.

Keep the jokes. Dont be a bunch of pussies
