Siren Festival 2006

The Village Voice has announced some of the bands that will be playing at this years Siren Festival. We've enjoyed going to these for the past few years, and are always excited to start hearing about who's going to play. Here's what they've got so far:
Stars
Tapes 'N Tapes
The Stills
The Cribs
Celebration
She Wants Revenge
Aside from those last two, that's the foundation for a pretty good lineup. Actually, we don't really love the Stills either. We're psyched to finally see Stars on the bill though. And who doesn't love a little Cowbell by Tapes 'n Tapes? Listen: cowbell.mp3

are you kidding me? the stills are a great band!
and celebration always puts on a crazyass show. c'mon.
celebration is an excellent contribution to a 'foundation for a pretty good lineup'!
wow, jen carlson, you already had me enthralled by your class with your comments on misshapes from a while back, but with your love for celeberation, i now know you're a lady with taste too.
Seriously, Celebration has been one of the better shows I've seen in the past few months. Not necessarily daytime music, but certainly not to be discounted.
But do note the lack of support for She Wants Revenge, ha.
No. No. No. Not "She Wants Revenge!"
Village Voice, can you hear this?
Please get a decent sound system this year!
It's a long way out to Coney Island, and it ain't worth it if your little woofers only deliver crackle and distortion (not the overdriven Marshall kind).
Yours,
New York Inquirer (we don't have a festival yet.)
she wants revenge is the worst god damn band i've had the displeasure of hearing this year
"And who doesn't love a little Cowbell by Tapes 'n Tapes?"
I don't
Yay more bland, yuppie, "indie (without the INDependant ethics), snooze inducing, rubbish white boy rock for 22 year olds. Awesome.
It's a poor line-up so far. Celebration are a sub-par Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Three piece band. No bass player. "Mad" female singer with obligatory tattoss and white belt. Ho-hum.
Art Brut and Dirty On Purpose also playing at Siren.

art brut and dop can't right this sinking ship.
this festival is getting as stale as the barely changing poster art. who the fuck books this shit? it's about time that the voice hands over the booking reigns to an independent curator.
i vote todd p.
name some bands that have released great albums in the past year or so and haven't played the festival before: deerhoof, danielson, man man, sonic youth (coming soon), animal collective, the hold steady, islands, bonnie prince billy, silver jews, sparks, liars...etc.
blogger hype = shitty lineups
thank you captain badass. and i'd just like to confess that at the Stars show i went to i found myself thinking "what the fuck am i doing here? they are terribly annoying." and they are...it's fact. they are annoying douches from canada. i'm sorry everyone.
Celebration played an RIPPING fierce set supporting TVOTR at Bowery. I'll definitely check them again. Also, Squid Ink, there is bass in the band; Sean Antanaitis plays Hammond organ, keyboards, guitar AND the bass line with his feet on Moog bass pedals. So the low end is well accounted for. My .02 here: fistswithyourtoes.blogs.com/fistswithyourtoes/2006/04/okay_lets_see_h.html
But to each "our" own, as Gothamist would say.
Captain Badass, Liars already played Sirenfest.
Its not a shitty line-up...not completely. But the Stills and Stars and She Wants Revenge are all semi-popular bands that are gonna attract big crowds. Big Crowds of douchebags, perhaps (that was the case at YYY's last week). I'm interested in seeing how the turnout is....and if its going to be as good an experience as its been in the past few years.
