So it appears that the Food Network is taping a show this afternoon called "Culinary Claim to Fame," featuring Ben Sargent of Williamsburg's Surf Bar. It's all about the chowda, folks, but Ben had some tough competition in the form of one Bobby Flay. We guess we'll have to wait until the show airs to know what happens, but we did find a couple chowder recipes from Flay on FoodTV.com:
- Corn & Green Chili Chowder
- Ivey House Gator Chowder
- Tobey's Mussel Chowder
- New England Clam Chowder
- Rhode Island Quahog Chowder

Gotta go with Jasper White as the Chowder king.
Love his 50 Chowders book.

Is there a show that Bobby Flay won't appear on?
I've been saying this for years, maybe once Surf Bar gets some buzz, people will believe me: Surf Bar has the best burgers in the city. Shake Shack and Peter Luger notwithstanding. Check 'em out.
I have had some of the worst service and worst chowder of my life each of the 3 times I tried Hurricane Hopeful.
Surf Bar is like the Frying Duchman from the Simpsons: everything has fish in it, even the bread. [shudder].
I was at the chowder-off and I gotta say all the chowders were delicious. Ben's were definitely top-notch. I won't give away the surprise of who won, but we brooklyn chowder fans had a great time.
oh, and I second the high marks for surf bar's burgers. If you're not feeling in a chowder mood, they're grrrreat!
Man talking about hurricane hopefulls. I dont have much experience with diff clam chowders being from texas and all but, is it really suppose to be that watery/runny-whoops drop a water logged peice a bread in it too nice touch.
I like cambells better :) and 50% cheaper.
