i agree that bohemian hall has gotten a little crazy on warm weekend nights. however, i was there this weekend, and it was totally pleasant. it was sunday, though. and joey in astoria is cool, btw.

There are lots of out of the way beer gardens in the outer boroughs, if you think this one is too crowded just go to another.

Maybe "Joey" should build his own beer garden so that he can have it allll to himself. God forbid people other than he and his friends enjoy the beer garden! I love the place, and I hope the lines are not a sign of things to come this summer, but I sure don't have any special sense of entitlement to the place just because I've never had to wait in line to get in. Too bad real estate is too out of control for anymore beer gardens to open up in the city...it could use them!

For shake shack there's no excuse, it was the dumbest waste of an hour. But where are you going to go after you rode the subway ALL the way to Astoria? Who the hell isn't nostalgic for $1 beer that's fresher/better than 99% of beers available here?

It's so true how the Beer Garden has gotten worse every year when the weather gets warmer.I live a few blocks away & love going there to get together w\ all of my local friend's & I must admit that I do regret when I read an article on The Garden in Time Out Magazine or The Village Voice becuse more people will be coming from the city,which means longer lines,nastier & louder people. It's a communial place to have fun & sometimes the people who have never frequented it before can push,shove & complain about the locals....if you have a problem with it than go back to Manhattan.

The line really isn't that big of a deal, but of course I would rather that all you pretentious Brooklyn and LES hipsters would leave the Beer Garden to those of us who choose live in the awesome borough that is Queens. I am forever grateful that "Queens" is not synonymous with "edgy and cool" to the multitudes of unemployed art school grads coasting by on their parent's wealth.

I lived right down the street until a few months ago, and can absolutely confrim the "hipster-ish" transformation over the past year. Out of nowhere last summer, there were lines starting at about 7pm on the weekends. It was never like that before, and the crowd had totally changed. Luckily, as Steven said above, any time outside of weekend nights are still tolerable.

"People in glass beer gardens shouldn't throw stones." I'm sure the Czech lodge members had some disparaging remarks about "Joey" when they decided to make the Bohemian their local. You live in Astoria for "5.5 years" and suddenly think your B and R? I sympathize with the annoyance of your favorite bar being too crowded, but it could be worse. Most of my favorite old time haunts ended up going out of business because not enough people went.

NYU, with its hipster student body, does have a study abroad program in Prague, so a significant portion of that line probably consists of former students getting nostalgic over memories of $1 half-liters.

The line has nothing to do with capacity outside- it's about how many people are inside the bar (so says the bouncer last time I was there). They can't let too many people in the building at once. They really need to build an entrance for the beer garden that doesn't involve going through the bar/restaurant.

I was just there last night and it was quite pleasant, not a lot of people around. Fuck the weekend, do it up after work on a Monday.
