Brooklyn Vegan has the scoop on the inaugural High Line Festival, which will occur, well, a year from now (May 2007). The festival will take place in neighborhoods underneath the High Line, the public park which will be transformed from the abandoned elevated railway line on the west side of Manhattan. Who is curating such an event? David Bowie.
According to Billboard:
Bowie will play a large outdoor concert, his first show in New York since 2003. He will also select musicians and artists to appear throughout the festival. "I've been particularly excited about seeking out emerging artists and giving them a place in a festival that will also feature some very well-known names," Bowie says.
Note: David Bowie came to our Movable Hype show last year, seeking out Clap Your Hand Say Yeah. What else is he listening to? He tells New York Magazine, "'I’ve been listening to Arcade Fire and Secret Machines and this great opera from the eighties called Nixon in China.'" So there are some obvious contenders for headliners for the festival, but we're excited to see who else Bowie embraces in the music scene in the next year.
In the same article he also says he'll be taking a year off from touring and recording, it looks like he found a project to work on when he's not sneaking in to movies at the Angelika - of which he said, "'I like going out to the Angelika: If the first one’s only okay, I’ll sneak into one after the other. It’s so easy.'"

I sneak into movies at the angelika all the time. i've had quite a number of my own personal film festivals there.
Nixon in China-mad props go to John Adams (ironic name).
This was a pretty damn good opera. Only heard it, never saw it.

Sweet, that should be a good time. I can't believe it's been 3.5 years since Bowie's done a show in NYC -- of course, he did a whole bunch in New York between 2000 and 2003 (the five-borough 'Marathon Tour,' several shows at Roseland, Jones Beach on at least 2 different occasions, MSG...)
Bowie should ask The High Strung to play. And The High Dials. And The High Llamas. And The High Violets. And The High & Mighty. And maybe The High will reunite for a special performance.
Pun over. Sorry.
I saw DB at Roseland and Jones Beach. I remember 2 things specifically from Jones Beach (not named after him), 1) It rained (it was a festival where Moby also played) and he said "I eat the rain;" and 2) He mentioned "Granddaddy" as a great band noone had heard of (I had the album already)/
Maybe somebody could remind David that he can afford all the movie tickets he wants, being super-famous and all.
If ever a movie sells out at Angelika, and there are no seats left, I'll know whose rock-star ass to kick!
david should ask hooker to play, check them out at hookerstuff.com,you will not be disapointed!!!!!!!!!!!
