Map of the Day: A-Rod's Guide to NYC

2006_4_alexrodmap1.jpg

Windows Live Local is trying to promote its maps with "CelebFavorites"-- annotated maps of a bunch of different cities by various stars. We're not that impressed-- they've only got one map of NYC, by the Yankees hot-shot third baseman Alex Rodriguez. In it, he details his love for expensive restaurants, expensive hotels, and expensive stores (A-Rod looooves Bergdorfs!)-- but you don't get a sense that he gets out much into more interesting neighborhoods. Of course, if you want to know where A-Rod is really hanging out, you should be reading Gawker's Stalker-- it might be terrible and immoral, but at least it covers downtown.

most people don't have the oodles of money a-rod has to hit up those stores.

Let's say for a minute you make, oh, well, say $13 million a year playing baseball. You play 162 games a year, half of them in the Bronx. Maybe you're lucky enough to play a handful of post-season games. So, you're in NYC 120+ days a year. How you gonna spend that type of dough?
If it were me, I'd be doing the Le Bernardin/Jean Georges/Daniel thing regularly. I mean, what's a thousand bucks on good food and wine when you got that much coming in? A nice crib? No problem.
Some off-season travel? No problem. Some philanthropy? You bet. But all that playing makes me hungry and, frankly, Szechuan Palace just don't satisfy me more than one a month.

Why is Alex standing under scaffolding? He looks like a contestant for the Apprentice.

Dor-A's PR people must have put that list together.

If it was a real list of Dor-A's favorite places, the spots on the map would be clustered around Chelsea.

I take offense to the idea that the neighborhoods that A-Rod hangs out in are "less interesting" than others; I live in midtown and find it interesting every day. It is all a matter of perspective and preference.
