Kitchenware
According to our friends at Curbed, Broadway Panhandler will be moving to 8th Street (at Mercer) in August. It's one of Gothamist's favorite kitchen supply stores. You can't beat their Le Creuset sale every January, their customer service is terrific and they offer knife sharpening each weekend (call in advance to confirm times: 866-266-5927).
This move will complete a troika of kitchenware store openings and moves within the past year. Among our other favorite sources, midtown's Bridge Kitchenware moved to 711 Third Ave (at 45th) in April. And west coast favorite Sur La Table opened in SoHo (at Crosby & Spring) last August.
Other Manhattan standbys include Williams-Sonoma, Dean & Deluca, Bed Bath & Beyond (good prices, if you can handle the crowds), Zabar's, Bowery Kitchen Supply (460 W. 16th) and restaurant supply row on lower Bowery. In Brooklyn, we like A Cook's Companion (179 Atlantic Ave.) and Tarzian West for Housewares (194 7th Ave). What's your favorite kitchenware source?

8th and Mercer? Isn't that the old Bottom Line space?
Nope, Bottom Line was at 4th and Mercer.
Weird location. Isn't that an Au Bon Pain or something? I think there's also one of those creepy Games Workshop places there.
I've gotten most of my stuff from Williams-Sonoma. I know it's retardly overpriced, but when relatives want to give me a gift certficate somwhere, Williams-Sonoma always seems to be the choice since you can buy pots, pans, vaccum cleaners, plates, towels, books and even food.
I'd rather that they gave me a Zabar's or Panhandler gift certificate since it is better and cheaper at both of those, but oh well.
By the way, Zabar's has mad low prices on oversize Le Creuset pans and pots. Their food can be expensive, but the kitchenware is usually diret cheap.
There's a good place on Atlantic Avenue which is pretty good, but the name escapes me.
Satan, that would be cook's companion (on atlantic). Equally expensive (but great selection).
I really love Century 21 (in Manhattan and Brooklyn).
Zabar's upstairs. It is a small space but they pretty much have everything. And cheap. If you can live with pans that are good but maybe not the fanciest brand you can get real deals.
it's gotta be the old wet seal space on the north side of 8th. it's the only thing big enough on that block.
They don't really have "cookware" per se, but I love Fish's Eddy for dishes and glassware (although much of the glassware breaks easily).
I got some defunct airline silverware Fish's Eddy when they were having a closing their upper west side location. It was quite cheap and I was happy that I got some PanAm stuff.
I am wondering if Broadway Panhandler wil lhave a moving sale.
Zabars is good for stuff, too.
A Cook's Companion (at 197 Atlantic) has been my favorite cookware store since they opened. The staff has always given great advice and has yet to steer me wrong.
