Here's a Friday kick-in-the-crotch for all Greenpoint architecture lovers-- Moufle captured the demolition of the three beautiful skybridges that survived Tuesday's fire. The bridges were a favorite subject for generations of NYC photographers and it's really sad to see them taken down-- especially since they seemed to get through the fire unscathed. Bah!

"Beautiful?" Jake, m'man, you need some glasses. Those things were utilitarian and ugly. In terms of beautiful skybridges, there's one next to the High Line that leaves these things in the dust. I forget what street it's on, somewhere in the 20s, I think. That has architectural grace written all over it, unlike these boxy, rusty, engineer-designed monstrosities made from corrugated sheet metal.
Here's what I'm talking about. Gorgeous architectural detail. Same with the Staple Street skybridge and the Met Life skybridge. Just because something is old doesn't make it beautiful. These skybridges are the real beauties.
Links again to the real beauties. I posted a long message, but this goddamn system is "holding it for approval" since it was the "first time" I posted.

I'm not going to waste time making these live, clickable links. I did that once already. This is the second time this idiotic system lost my post in the past week because it was my "first post." Disable the stupid thing!
here's are some more of the skybridges prior to the fire.
