Karen, the muslims you describe hardly represent the demographic of those found in the US penal system. Get your high horse, what you're descibing is completely beside the point. and J, if you knew anything about what goes on inside prisons, you'd realize that your statement is ridiculously naïve.

From what I've read today, it looks like he will indeed be kept in solitary confinement for the lifetime of his sentence, 23 hours per day in his cell with one hour of recreation outside his cell, which will also be solitary. to me that is a punishment worse than death, no doubt very expensive to the federal gov., but also proper justice in this case. i would be very curious to know how it affects him over the years, i look forward to the 20/20 or dateline or whatever in like 5 to 10 years from now documenting his misery. maybe he'll find a way of killing himself...

It was my understanding that if he wasn't executed, then he wouldn't become a martyr...and isn't that the intended result (in his eyes)? Therefore, I would think a life sentence would mean that he DIDN'T really win. I think he's grasping at straws to make himself feel better.

I know plenty of blonde, blue eyed Muslims. Most of them had grandparents who lived in Romania, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. They have names like Muhammed and Noor, but also, names like John and Lisa. Needless to say, they have a LOT of fun, going across the border to Canada, when border gaurds have insisted that they have fake id, and are not too smart, pulling jokes like this in times like these. I also know a few Muslims (as well as Buddhists, Jews, and Christians) who were born in other religions, and converted as adults. Those of you who think that all Muslims are black...get out once in awhile, and open your eyes. If I know this, living in such a provincial locale as the western end of NY... As for life sentences...well, how about life in solitary confinement to a 6x6x6 cell, that has a sink, toilet and cot, no window, no access to mail, tv, radio, books, writing, visitors, computers. Nothing of the outside world reaches you, and the only time you reach the outside world, is the day you are found dead. You get a slot in the door, that your meals are slid through. If you go on a hunger strike, you get tied down, and get the stomach tube. If you fall ill, you get a few aspirin every few hours. When you die, you and your cell get napalmed, and your family notified. I'm told, that is cruel and unusual punishment, by a few prison guards I know. I think the death penalty is the easy way out. I want people to have nothing to do, but think of why they are in that cell, for years.

Have you seen how scrawny Muslims are? Take away their guns and strap-on bombs, and they haven't got much. The black and Latino gangs would be able to take on the "Muslim gangs" for sure.

um, i doubt he'll get to socialize too much. the government would probably want to keep him away from "muslim gangs." he'll die alone and without his virgins and goats as prizes when he dies.

his time spent in jail might not be that miserable if he ends up becoming a superstar in the eyes of his prison's muslim gangs. that would spare him from beatings and other degradations that an otherwise hated inmate might suffer through. all speculative though, i guess only time will tell (and maybe some primetime news report...)
