The Yankees acquired Mike Myers to get out lefty batters. He has made a career of doing that and through twenty-three games had not allowed a run this season. Unfortunately, he had not faced the best lefty in the American League and when he did, David Ortiz hit a three-run homer to propel Boston to a 7-3 victory.
The game started with Johnny Damon receiving a rude reception from the Fenway faithful. Damon seemed confused by all the boos because he stopped and tipped his cap. Maybe he really is an idiot. The fans weren’t done with him as they threw what looked like real money at him when he ran out to centerfield in the bottom of the first.
Things won’t get any easier tonight for New York when they face Josh Beckett. Beckett last faced the Yankees in the 2003 World Series, shutting them down and giving the Marlins the championship. Shawn Chacon will take the ball for New York.

Damon was tipping his cap towards the Red Sox dugout, a courteous salute to his former teammates.
No, he actually tipped it towards the entire park, then to the dugout. It was extremely courteous nonetheless, and I wish more of the Fenway faithful returned the gesture.
Why should they return the gesture after he so famously declared that no amount of money could make him leave Boston for the Yankees? He deserved what he got.
Might I also add, Damon was quoted as saying that he'd retire before he went to the Yankees.
Plus, the Fenway Faithful *did* sort of clap for him on his first at bat. Once he tipped his cap they just booed, though, since he was clearly overstepping his boundaries and making the game about him rather than the teams. Mirabelli did no such hat tip.
whats your point, Mirabelli never played for the Yankees.
Great game last night in Red Sox Nation!
I especially love the jet and police escort for the backup catcher, Doug Mirabelli. The man was hitting .188, but he gets treated like royalty here in the nation. The Skanks aren't going to find a pitcher to get Big Papi out either.
Try as you might, Big Papi will go deep every night!
Katie, are you surprised that a pro baseball player went to the Yankees after he 'promised' he wouldn't? I'm not, but I still hate him for doing it. As for why the Nation should have returned the gesture:
Compare the way the Red Sux fans treated Johnny Damon last night to the way the Yankees received Tino Martinez when he came back as a Devil Ray after helping the Yankees win 4 World Series titles. The Yankees fans gave Tino a standing ovation... seems like a no brainer, right? The Suck Sox are severly lacking in the class department.
You're right, Tino leaving the Yankees for the Devil Rays is just like Damon leaving the Sox for the Yankees. Lavender, you're delusional.
'Red Sux' and 'Suck Sox?' I hope you’re a teenager.
Ahh, yes... Red Sox Nation. SS, DD. More balls than brains, more loud than smart, more hateful than passionate. Finally win a world series after eighty-something years and you still can't let it go. You don't need a ball club, you need a therapist, or maybe a jail.
Anyone remember how Yankee fans reated David Wells when he returned to Yankee Stadium last year? Hmmm?
