So there has been some discussion in Contribute about the large amount of smoke that seems to be floating over lower Manhattan. Just to be clear, as far as we can tell the fire is not in Manhattan, it's in Jersey. Probably a brush fire? More than that we haven't found out much (not our state...), but maybe it's related to this? Anybody know anything more?
In any event, we hope the tuna sandwiches are ok...

Here's another view, from Red Hook. We were out there and lots of people were wondering about the smoke:

UPDATE: yep, definitely sounds like a Jersey brushfire.

Definitely in Jersey. I was walking along the Hudson this morning and saw it. Probably linked to Al-Qaeda.
1010 WINS called it as a brush fire off the NJ turnpike in Ridgefield Park.
Yeah, coming back to the city from Ikea, we took a crazy-long detour. They didn't make an announcement but I suspected the huge smoke plume was the cause.
I was in Sheep Meadow today and it was more than visible. It kinda freaked me out.
Article here from the Star Ledger; the fire was in Secaucus.
The brush fire forced delays and cancelations of New Jersey Transit and Amtrak trains.
