We had to evacuate the gym last Friday evening because a manhole cover exploded at the corner of 63rd and Lexington. Luckily no one was hurt but traffic was definitely slowed down because of it.Oddly enough this incident never got reported in the papers or on the news.

I had a similar incident happen to several manhole covers in front of my building on Austin St. in Forest Hills, Queens about 2 years ago. The explosion was big enough to be felt inside my apartment on the 6th floor. I ran downstairs a few minutes later to see thick black smoke pouring out of two manholes and found one manhole cover about 30 feet away laying on the street. I believe the FDNY gave the same reason for this happening as the most recent manhole explosion.
