Are You Special?

2006_04_arts_jewcy.jpgJewcy (a politics and culture webzine featuring "fierce and funny writing and artwork" with commentary in the Jewish world and beyond) will be relaunching this summer. Tonight, however, is the launch of their variety show-style reading series (you see, Jewcy produces offline too!)

Hosted by comedian Chelsea Peretti and featuring author Hal Niedzviecki and his new book, Hello, I'm Special: How Individuality Became the New Conformity - the night will be filled with writers, divas, booze, talentless dancers and lots of shtick.

The eve will be centered around a contest, held American Idol style, for the Most Special Person Ever award. Participants will be not so silently judged by the likes of: Eric Drysdale (The Colbert Report), Jackie Hoffman (Broadway Diva), Meredith Scardino (Letterman), Joe Garden (The Onion), Jesse Oxfeld (Gawker), Michael Showalter (Michael Showalter!) and more (including an interpretive dance squad - which are unrelated to the aforementioned talentless dancers, we think).

Tonight // 8pm // Ars Nova [511 W 54th St] // $10
