Got to agree with Scott. The Polish food I ate in Buffalo growing up (and have since had in Chicago) is so much better than what I've had in NYC. And I can't seem to find a good kraut filled pierogi or fresh keilbasa...

i'm not sure of restaurants but in the c-town on graham they have packaged pierogies that are made somewhere down the street. (google tells me it's at 438 Graham). haven't seen anything with kraut but they have a few good varieties: cheddar & potato, russian (which i think is made with the farmers cheese), mushroom, etc. a friend mentioned she'd seen them in top's on n6th as well.

I grew up on midwestern Polish-American fair. I lived in Greenpoint for a few months when I moved to the city and took the opportunity to sample the food at many places. Christina's was better than most; I never made it to Baron's ... but overall, I have to say I was seriously disappointed, especially in the pierogi. The Polish food in Chicago, Milwaukee and Hamtramck (in Detroit, where my mom's side of the family landed when they came to the US) is vastly superior to anything I've found in NYC so far. Any other Greenpoint recommendations? I'm particularly curious to know if any Polish restaurants have pierogi with the sweetened farmers cheese or particularly good mushroom & kraut filling (and better dough, to boot)...

um, you do understand that i was only trying to get a few lines of the menu in focus, right? and sorry that you don't like the quality of the photos, but when you go out to eat, it's not like you control the lighting. and i don't tend to carry a tripod around.

$3 eggs benedict at christina's on the weekends!!! yummy try antek on norman avenue, near manhattan. the food is great...although the ambiance leaves something to be desired.

I can't track it down, but since you mention this today, I read yesterday that Lech Walesa is appearing in Greenpoint today at a new bank opening. Yes, that Lech Walesa. And it probably happened this morning.

I go to this place fairly often. The service is always slow, but the food is dirt cheap and the waitresses' skirts are very, very short. Sit at the counter for slight faster service and a great view.
