Gothamist Music Picks

Tonight San Francisco rockers with the middle class rasp, Two Gallants, come to Bowery Ballroom. We interviewed them last week, and you should really check them out while they're in town. For serious. Opening up for them are Sam Champion (the actual NY weatherman still comes up first in a Google search) and Cold War Kids. Elsewhere in the city, Pela is playing with Project Jenny/Project Jan (at the Delancey).

There's already ex-Art Bruter's and they're playing at Cake Shop Tuesday night under the name Macaca Mulatta, for the One Louder Presents party. That night at Irving Plaza, Taking Back Sunday plays to a crowd of eager emo kids there to see the band on the night of their new album release. The show is sold out, so unless you want to CL it, you may have to wait until their show at Great Adventure this summer.

2006_04_arts_snowden.jpgWednesday night The Secret Machines play Hiro Ballroom. They always play unusual venues (anyone remember their show at the Mac store?!) Over at Arlene's Grocery (which, honestly, is a way better venue than, say, the Delancey...we call a comeback for this venue in '06)...Snowden will be playing. The band is newly signed and will be releasing a full length this summer. Catch them while you can! They're also playing at Southpaw on Thursday night. We'll be at both!

Some other solid picks for Thursday: Seu Jorge, Chris Berry, Panjea at Irving Plaza and John Vanderslice, Death Vessel, Wooden Wand are at Mercury Lounge.

Friday night Fruit Bats, Amandine and Jason Friedman (of The Boggs) are at Mercury Lounge. Elf Power, Oakley Hall, The Instruments, Frank Bango are at Northsix...and we are likely at Pianos catching Bishop Allen's set.

Saturday night screams of 16 year old girls will be heard in the vicinity of Bowery Ballroom, as Adrian Grenier and his band The Honey Brothers tarnish the venue with their sticky ukelele pop. Other bands playing that night that aren't famous because of their drummer: Rye Coalition at Pianos and Spank Rock at Mercury Lounge. We suggest the former.

On Sunday, wind down (or stay up) with a 3pm matinee show at Northsix starring Hula, The Hong Kong, KAPOW! and The Shapes. Right now, listen to some music:

Las Cruces Jail.mp3 - Two Gallants
Anti Anti.mp3 - Snowden
