A Push With the Pads

2006_04_smetslogo.jpgWell, it could have been worse for Victor Zambrano in yesterday's 7-4 Mets loss to the Padres, but Zambrano was only in the game for 4 innings. During those innings, Zambrano pitched poorly again and allowed 5 runs. Josh Barfield started the scoring action in the 1st inning with a solo home run and Brian Giles finished Zambrano in the 4th inning with a grand slam. The Mets made the game more interesting in the 6th inning by scoring four runs, but they were unable to finish the comeback.

At least there was Saturday's great performance by Pedro Martinez to keep things slightly positive for the Mets. Martinez allowed a run and only two hits over 7, while striking out 11, in Saturday's 8-1 win. Pedro is now 4-0 in the young season. The one run was a home run from former Met Mike Piazza. Carlos Delgado added a home run in the game as well for his 8th of the season.

The Mets travel up to San Francisco to face the Giants in a three-game series starting tonight.
