Random Videos of the Earth Day

Today we discovered a new level of dork for us to revel in. Which is to say, our first reaction upon hearing that the Boomerang network is celebrating Earth Day by airing 13 "lost" episodes of the late, not-quite-great, early-90's P.C. cartoon Captain Planet was "that's really nifty, thank goodness we've got our TiVo!"

Then we remembered that all we ever actually liked about the show, besides CP's green mullet of course, was the theme song and the show's inadvertently hysterical opening sequence. So instead of watching any of the lost eps (which are going to get re-aired in a second marathon this afternoon), we just fired up the old trusty YouTube.

And so, in honor of Earth Day '06, we present you with the Captain Planet opening:

    Why did they use the Soviet Union instead of Europe? All the other characters represented a continent, whereas the Soviet Union is just a country (albeit the the largest country in the world...Russia still holds that distinction).

  • I love how the credits say "Original Idea: Ted Turner".
