Because Gothamist can never have too much Chinese food, we stopped in at Taste of Chinatown this afternoon despite the weather forecast. The crowds were surprisingly large considering with some people saying that there were actually more on hand than expected. Pictured above is Peking Duck House and Ping's Seafood, both on Mott Street. As one might expect, there was a long line for duck. When we talked to one of the people in line, he said that he wouldn't mind waiting in the line for up to 20 minutes.
By the time we left, the rain was pretty heavy, but there were still lots of people milling about, huddled and eating under storefront canopies. If you didn't make it out today, there will be another Taste of Chinatown in October.

i went there early and was amazed at the high percentage of chinese people there -- assumed it would be more touristy but was humored by the idea that the people who actually live in chinatown were getting the most out of it.
so true, it was better then a trip to the dollar store...
was anyone else surprised at how big the portions were despite the low price?
kudos to a great time.
it was an amazing saturday afternoon and i ate so much.
best thing were the peking duck pancakes! ooooh!
"Huddled"? They should make that the new slogan of A Taste of Chinatown. "Give me your hungry, your cheap, your huddled masses, yearning to be full."
Looks so tasty!
I always find everything so cheap in C-town that having a "special" day to eat there seems silly. Fighting crowds for dumplings? No, thank you.
Went to my first TOC, hoping the crowds would be deterred by the weather.
Nope, fat chance.
I was on the lookout for that Peking Duck.
I'll be on that line again in October. I brought back the carcass for soup stock.
Next time, I'm going to get stuff from other stalls first and eating it on the wait line for the Peking Duck.
