Earth Day 2006 in the City

2006_04_pigsleeping.jpg

Tomorrow is Earth Day, and there are a number of events in the city. Many are occuring at Grand Central Terminal, where there are exhibits, demonstrations, and musical perfomances with exhibitors like the Audobon Society, Google Earth and Recycle a Bicycle - check out Earth Day NY 2006. There's an Earth Awareness Festival tomorrow on Waverly Place, the events the Parks Department is organizing, and we are very partial to the events occuring at zoos around the city - activities and you can drop off your old cellphones at the Central Park, Bronx, Prospect Park, and Queens Zoos (plus the NY Aquarium).

What Earth Day goings-on do you know about? Tell us!

There is an electronics recycling even on Sunday in Union Square, North Plaza (SE corner of 17th St and Broadway). 9 AM to 3 PM, rain or shine. Items you can dispose of include computers, monitors, TVs, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, and cell phones.

Drop off is free and open to NYC residents only. Each person can bring up to five items to be recycled. Cell phones will be donated to Collective Good.

There is some horrible jamband playing on Vanderbilt. Sound like a cross between journey & phish ... yuch.

The Natural Resources Defense Council is outside Grand Central at 42nd & Vanderbilt offering up a bunch of interactive games for children and their parents. They're giving out freebies too.

wow, at first glance I totally thought that was a photo of someone trying to rake a dead pig off the path in Washington Square Park. Happy Earth Day!

Looks like the pig just ate at the Shake Shack.

But Ryan is right--it does look like someone is trying to rake a dead pig off the walk.

What does this photo have to do with Earth Day?

Great, I got to get rid of a couple of pentium 4 desktops.

It doesn't have much to do with Earth Day, but I sure want to scratch that pig's tummy! Scratch scratch scratch scratch...
