Bless Your Bike

2006_04_blessingbikes.jpg

Tomorrow, at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, is the 7th Annual Blessing of the Bikes. The The Very Reverend Dr James Kowalski will wish bikers from all walks of life - messenger, commuting, kids, you name it - a safe biking season. What's awesome is that bikers get to bring their bikes inside.

St. John the Divine is on Amsterdam at 110th Street. Another cool event to mark in the calendar is the Feast of St. Francis, when all the animals are blessed (see these pictures on Flickr). The Hungarian Pastry Shop is just a few blocks away, if you need a nosh.

  • JESUS CHRIST

what a genius way to raise money for the church. How do you get 3000 bucks for the coffers in less than half an hour? Just bless some dumb christians on their bikes. So what if someone gets hit or killed? does that mean that person wasn't blessed. This is why Religion sucks balls. I can't believe all those white people in the pics. I thought they were smart.

  • Biking season has obviously started...the number of bike cops on the streets looks to have just increased. I see them all the time on 6th Ave, and I was actually pulled over by a bike cop in Tribeca (though I didn't end up getting a ticket).

    Awesome.

Brouhaha, no, sorry, scooters are not bicycles. It's bad enough that scooters (and cars!) are on our sidewalks, much less in our houses of worship.

  • But what I want to know is: Will The Very Reverend Dr James Kowalski ride in Critical Mass?

  • That's great?

    Will they allow scooters (motorbikes)?

  • This is more proof that we Episcopalians are rather eccentric.
