This was the type of game the Yankees hope they can play in October. Crisp pitching and some timely hitting resulted in a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays Wednesday to bring the Yankees back to .500.

Mike Mussina was dominant going 7 2/3 innings and allowing one run. The run wasn’t really his fault as Toronto got back-to-back hits on balls that probably should have been caught. Kyle Farnsworth came in and got two big outs in the eighth inning before turning it over to Mo who nailed down his second save of the year.

Sadly, the day was marked by tragedy in the Yankee family. Minor league manager, Oscar Acosta and Humberto Trejo, a field coordinator, were killed in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. Acosta had been in the organization for ten years and was the pitching coach at AAA Columbus for three seasons. Trejo had spent 16 years in the organization. The Yankees will observe a moment of silence for them before tomorrow’s game against the Orioles.
