As summer conjures up visions of backyard gardens and long afternoons lounging outdoors, Boerum Hill's Pacifico, a Tex-Mex style self-labled "glorified taco stand" offers a double whammy: a front yard deck & a big backyard. Strung with colored Christmas lights year-round, umbrellas shelter diners on a large front-porch like dining ground while inside, dim lighting and candles accentuate tiled countertops and large, colorful murals. Gothamist recommends starting off with the Queso Fundido, a hot skillet of melted Monterey Jack, cortija, and carmelized onions that comes with a basket of tortilla chips, stiffer than fondue, but equally as addictive. For the cheese-phobic, try the chunky onion and tomato laden guacamole, which comes in ample servings with a heaping side of chips.
The "taco stand" section of the menu lets you choose your favorite: tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, or enchiladas, each which comes with a choice of filling ranging from mixed vegetables to grilled steak to Gothamist's preference, the pork carnitas (pulled pork marinated in Coca-Cola). Casually served in baskets, servings are ample, oozing with excess cheese and fillings.
Less than authentic, but more than enjoyable, Pacifico -- built on an old parking lot and owned by Jimmy Marmary of Patois, Schnack, and the Gowanus Yacht Club -- is all-seasons fun for grilled pork ribs, too many watermelon margaritas, and kicking back with friends. Tasty, but often forgivably inauthentic food is often masked by a perfectly good time.
Pacifico is located 269 Pacific St. between Smith St. & Boerum Place. (718) 935-9090.

What are on those plates? Can't see them in the photos.

I live pretty close to Pacifico...that top picture does it justice. More hipsters than you can count and rats the size of Coopers...but the foods good...$11.95 for a 3 buck buritto...anyone wanna buy a bridge?
Pacifico is one of those places that lures you in with the decor. But good lord, is 'JoeyCee' right. The food is overpriced and the location is very questionable. Lots of rats and the lots nearby have been home to legal and illegal car repair services for years. The soil there has got to be as toxic as it can get for the area.
It's like a tourist trap for locals. I'd avoid it at all costs.
Hipsters? OK... anyway, the burrito is $8 and fucking huge, and the baja tacos are fucking awesome. Also I have eaten there well over 50 times and I have never seen a rat. I don't understand people who feel the need to talk shit about a place innacurately just for the sake of feeling like they're somehow better than those who have a high opinion of it.
The margarita I got here tasted like it had been made with Crystal Light and the salt was that cheap foamy fake salt.
Ok ok I guess I was being an anti-hipster dick...I apologize...I live 100 yards from the place...I have seen rats...we (locals) laffed when it opened up cause the little froot store that was there was boarded up and was like something out of Tim Burton's sketchbook...but I guess I've seen worse...
But you can't deny the hipster comment...or can you?... I've lived on Smith/Atlantic for 10 years and supported the old places which have all been replaced by "Bartabacs" and "Pacificos"...It was sad to see the rabid and rapid change in the old nabe...way of the world I guess...
But any new place that opens has the "Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome..."what you don't like the new faux Tex/Mex joint"...Come to my neighborhood...but clean up after yourself please...I digress...never had the Margerita BTW
Er, well I've only lived in the nabe for just under 2 yrs so I guess I'm one of those people who've 'ruined' your neighborhood. But from all I hear, the place was a wasteland you wouldnt feel safe walking in broad daylight in, just 4 or 5 years back, so how is this a bad thing? Now it's a [relatively but not entirely] safe place to walk with your kids/dogs/etc with admittedly some crappy restaurants but also some extremely good ones (Taku, Saul, Chestnut, Grocery). Pacifico is what it is...grungy, cheap mexican with decent margaritas. I'm surprised to see it profiled on Gothamist, it's not worth that much attention ;)
Welcome to the neighborhood...try Sam's on Court for real Brooklyn Charm...you didn't ruin it...don't drink and drive...say your prayers and eat your vitamins...
I can only guess that you are bagging on Pacifico because you don't want to have to fight the masses for outdoor tables. Pacifico rocks.
umm. been a safe neighborhood for a really long time. true, there was no place to buy trucker hats, and now there are two within a couple blocks, so that's great for people who want to buy trucker hats. more the merrier and all that but please think before you post. cheers
Why is this feature called "Camera in the Kitchen" if we never see a picture of a kitchen?
I've lived in the nabe for 12 years, and I have to say that the whole usedta-be-dangerous thing is bullsh. Usedta-be kind of a dump, but no more dangerous than most neighborhoods at the time.
Pacifico is good and pretty cheap, as is Mama Rosa's, the fake old-style pizza place it's connected to. Watch out for Gravy, though, which it the third element of that triad -- it's really genuinely awful
whats the new 4th place now?
Yeah, it's not nearly as much of a dump as it use to be. I'm pretty sure they've chased out most of the rats.
The third photo looks like mucus on bread. Is that supposed to be appetizing?
I've been in the 'hood for about 5 years... I like Pacifico, but then again I also like Lobo which lots of people don't like b/c its also 'inauthentic'. Of course there's also Buddy's (which i think is horrible) and the super cheap tacqueria place on court/bergen (which I think is OK) but truth be told my favorite 'mexican' place (to use the term loosely) in the area is Alma.
i love buddy's.
and faan.
and the greens.
i eat food from one of those places at least once a week.
Nice to see we're all getting along now...don't forget the Mexican place on Atlantic betwixt Henry and Hicks (name egg-scapes me now, but I'm on sinus medication)...decent old style combo plates and baseball games when there on....
The neighborhood was never that shitty, at least not 20 yearsa ago when I grew up there. You had to watch yourself. Now it's just expensive. SoHo-Brooklyn. Thanks, hipsters.
Pacifico isn't that great; none of the attached restaurants are that great (Gravy is garbage). If you want a better price and a bigger burrito (and horchatas) go to The Original California Taqueria. It's f***ing soul food for an old Californian like me.
Californians have souls?
People are blaming hipsters for gentrification? I thought hipsters were the dirty kids on bikes who live in Bushwick. I'm just trying to get things straight here. If hipsters are the reason things are expensive in Boredom Hill, then hipsters are the people running real-estate development companies and banks. I'm so glad I figured it out. Dick Cheney must be such. a. hipster. Wow. I guess I hate hipsters too.
I don' know about hipsters, but what I do know is that ms. yp just gave another good review to another piece of shit restaurant. Sorry youngna, but pacifico sucks ass, and there's little more to say.
someone mentioned the new 4th place. it's some joint called trout. the menu looks good enough - and cheap. i'd love to know what it's like... fish!
The Pilgrims were hipsters....
gothamist gets a demerit for the first photo - that's not pacifico, it's the alley next door. boo for false presentation.
