Gothamist: dwell Bedding -- Cheap or REALLY Cheap?

Just an update: Face cream couldn't have been the culprit for me; I was pregnant and not using anything chemically at the time. So, it remains a mystery as to how the 'bleaching' occurred. dwell is sending me new bedding and I am sending them my defective stuff. I'll post again when we see how the new ones hold up (after caring for them as prescribed).

Actually the same thing happen to my printed sheets I bought at Target.. if you look on the back of the clearisil tube it says it, “can bleach fabrics”. Dwell’s care instructions are nothing out of the ordinary.

Puhleeze, Dwell, I can buy cheap sheets from Target and they wear like iron, but I buy pricey sheets from you and I need special washing instructions? Dwell sheets are great looking but the quality just isn't there for the money. And I don't use anti-acne products or bleach-containing detergents. However, if you can get them really cheap, by all means, live it up! Just don't expect them to last.

k's got it right ... i've ruined many a t-shirt by sleeping in them after using oxy. it never affected my sheets, though, until i bought dwell. my beautiful solid "leaf" pillowcases now boast an ugly orange streaks, and i haven't been able to find replacements. :( their bedding is just especially sensitive to benzoyl, i guess.

Its from face wash with medication like benzoyl peroxide, which bleaches fabric. There's a warning on some face wash that contain it that it may bleach fabric. It happens even to my expensive towels sometimes, its just how it is, its strong stuff.

so, its the customer's fault for using acne medicine? its either control your breakouts or have bleached out sheets? if a pillowcase can't stand up to a little clearasil, i would call that a problem with the quality of the sheets...

Hi from dwell! I’m the Sales Director here and would like to address the posting from today on Gothamist regarding the discoloration of our sheets. Thanks for calling this out, as we’re trying to educate our customer on how to best care for their bedding. The discoloration problem does not have to do with the quality of dwell sheets and for the most part is actually a result of the stronger detergents available on the market. Through third-party testing we discovered that the discoloration occurs when the sheets are washed with a detergent that contains bleach (and is especially bad when poured directly onto the sheets in the washer, rather than first into the water and then adding your sheets), or the pillowcases are slept on after someone applies a face product with peroxide and/or most acne treatments. Please know that our priority at dwell is the customer's satisfaction -- an email or call to our customer service person will always help you with this and we most definitely will replace your sheets. I HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ! For me, my friend's zit cream was the culprit.....
