Yesterday's the story about the car crash at West Broadway and West Houston got a bit of a twist when it turned out an assistant chief of police was driving the SUV was crashed into another car, then a building, as well as pedestrians. That's why the scene was positively swaming with cops! John McManus is second-in-command in Internal Affairs and was driving a city-owned Jeep Cherokee when he was making a left turn from West Houston onto West Broadway. Witnesses described the SUV as going "airborne" over the Con Ed site on West Broadway, and a delivery man and woman were hit by the Jeep. The two drivers and two pedestrians were treated for minor injuries. There are no charges being filed either, but here's a fun fact: McManus was in charge of security during the Republican National Convention, according to the Post.

An out-of-control automobile struck other cars and injured pedestrians? And there were no charges filed? I'm shocked!
There's a joke lurking somewhere in that fun fact, about out-of-control security and the crashing poll numbers/agenda/legacy of the Bush administration.
Actually, yeah, it's not like you have a right to make your left turn if someone is coming straight the other way.
Though the last time I f'ed up in an intersection fender-bender I was not given a ticket, either.
Airborne? He HAD to be breaking some law to do that.
I highly recommend the guacamole dip at Dos Caminos!
Their tequila selection is nice as well.
It's so nice outside.
You read enough of these articles and you start to think that the city doesn't issue traffic tickets for anything, so long as you hit something or someone.
