Literati Roundup: Of Chandeliers and Fighting Dems

Because everything is better when conducted under a gorgeous chandelier, head down to the National Arts Club for Literary Debuts: First Books by Two Authors. Reading tonight at the auspicous Gramercy Park location are Edward Schwarzchild and his new book, Responsible Men, alongside Ronna Wineberg's Second Language. The Club is at 15 Gramercy Park and the event is free, and open to the public, starting at 8PM.

At Labyrinth Books (536 W. 112th St.) on Thursday night (4/13), Mary Gordon will read from her novel, Pearl. The reading starts at 6PM and there will be a signing and reception following the reading. Also on Thursday, over in Brooklyn at Night and Day (5th Ave. at President St. in Park Slope), Noam Mor hosts a night of poetry and fiction from John High and Todd Thilleman. The reading starts at 7PM and there's no cover, but there's a $7 food and drink minimum (which sounds like a cover to us).

Then on Monday (4/17), the literally-inclined liberals (liberal-inclined literates?) among us are in for a real treat at Galapagos Art Space (70 N. 6th St. in Williamsburg). It's New York's first Progressive Reading Series, hosted by Stephen Elliott, with readings by Anthony Swofford (Jarhead), Jonathan Ames (I Love You More Than You Know), David Rees (Get Your War On), and other authors of the liberal bent. The reading costs $10-20 (on a sliding scale? We don't know what that means) and proceeds benefit The Fighting Dems. Should be interesting!
