Umbrellas may be one of the most disposable items in this disposable world of ours, but owning a nice one (a Brigg or a Fox, to name two) is one of life's great little luxuries. I've had a Brigg for nearly 10 years now and it's paid for itself many times over. I'm not really afraid of losing it...one tends not to lose something when it's special. tt

As I tend to loose umbrellas, I tend to go out in some sort of foul weather gear when it rains. It is harder to loose a raincoat than an umbrella, and they also tend not to suffer massive failures in the wind.

I favor the el-cheapo $3 black umbrellas myself, but my girlfriend likes the transparent bubbles that you can pull down over your head and still see where you're going. I also like the MoMA one with the blue sky on the inside, and I once saw a mother and daughter with matching (though different-sized) Pikachu umbrellas on Clinton St which was very cute. My girlfriend and I have also been looking for a nice one we saw in Taiwan that had ruffles around the edge, making it look like a flower when closed.

Had a cool umbrella, black on the outside, red on the inside with the quote: "The World Needs More Canada". Somebody stole it at a restaurant though. Ironic, n'est pas?

I love it, pesonally. I agree- an individual umbrella is one of the rare classic ways you can stand out in a city where stupid fads come and go every week. I appreciate the recommendation. Can't afford it, but appreciate it.

My dream has always been to get one of those Dickensian, ivory handled, scrimshaw classy umbrellas from James Patterson's store in Central London. If I had money to blow, it's the first thing I'm getting.
