Ladies and gentlemen, we're proud to report that Coney Island is now open! Yay, hot dogs, Cyclone, fun on the beach! Gothamist headed down to Coney Island earlier today as many of the rides opened up for the first time this year. We could even smell the fresh coats of paint as we stood under the Wonder Wheel. Marty Markowitz, ever the Brooklyn cheerleader was on hand as well. Also at opening day was the Hungry March Band, entertaining people as they were waiting for the Cyclone. We can't wait to get back to Coney during the rest of the season.
The Astroland Amusement Park is open weekends from now until June 11th starting at noon. Beginning June 16th, the park will be open everyday starting at noon until September 4th. After September 9th, it will be open on weekends only until a date to be determined.

Man that hot dog looks good!
Hey, is the carousel on the avenue open again yet?
I used to go to Coney in the winter just for a ride (or two) on it, and then a hot dog at Nathan's, before a brisk walk on the beach and home again.
It was a beautiful carousel, and I was glad to hear Bloomberg bought it at auction last year to keep it with us.
The Wonder Wheel -- the historic ferris wheel and amusement park -- opened this weekend too.
