9/11 Headaches

2006_4_health_braintumor.jpg
As EPA officials continue to affirm that the air around Ground Zero is perfectly safe for breathing (cough, cough, yeah right), many brave enough to lend to the rescue and recovery efforts of that day continue to experience long reaching health problems. The Post reports today of a class-action lawsuit alleging that "an alarming number of" workers have developed and died from brain tumors linked to 9/11 environmental exposures. This includes six NYPD cops as well as firemen, a Red Cross social worker, and, ironically, a city environmental protection worker.

The exact cause of brain cancer remains unclear. While several types of brain tumors run in families, most are without identifiable risk factors. Radiation, certain chemicals, and, yes, cellular phones, have been suggested andecdotally, but remain controversial.

It's not only brain cancer. I just heard that many of those from the rescuing team died from different types of caner. If true than not only ground zero spot is dangerous but the whole Apple cause that was really huge cloud of dust.

Radiation&chemo just tends to up your survival time from a couple of months up to 2 years. Most brain cancer that rapidly develops has low long-term survival rates....

It makes me wonder if people were allowed to return to the area too early. Was one week enough? Seems many residents and business returned after one week.

    I know mine did.

I think many did do their own testing, therefore, the lawsuits and inquires.

Now I don't know much about the causes of brain tumors but don't they treat brain cancer with radiation? (or, the newer more precise radiation, gamma knife)

Considering how many rich people live in Tribeca and the Financial District one has to wonder just how poisonous people think the air really is. These people could afford to do their own testing or simply move away if they believed their children were in danger. That people keep moving in makes me skeptical.
