Thinking About Today's Tomorrow

2006_04_todaylogo.jpgNBC will officially announce that Meredith Vieira will be the new Today Show co-anchor, filling Katie Couric's 7AM to somewhere in the 9-10AM area shoes, later this afternoon, though Vieira announced the move during The View this morning. Newsday's Verne Gay says that Meredith Vieira might be the most perfect replacement for Couric ever, which could be good or bad. But the biggest fun is asking people what they think of the move. Should Katie be on during the morning or at night? Will you watch her or will you just pay more attention to eating a healthier breakfast? Our second favorite reaction is from Andy Rooney: He told Don Imus that he isn't happy about Katie coming on board. Oh, Andy! Our most favorite reaction is when Sue Simmons joked during WNBC 11PM news that she was asked to be a Today Show anchor - it really got us thinking. (Fun fact, thanks to Toby at Random Observations: Matt Lauer was Simmons's co-anchor for the 5PM WNBC news broadcast.)

How about this...WHO GIVES A FLYING CRAP? I certainly don't. Katie Couric is a little monster...I've seen her off-screen behavior in person and she can broadcast from Mars for all I care.

It'd never work. Sue would have to do it sober, which completely removes any reason for watching her.

Is Campbell Brown taking cooking lessons from Maria Shriver?? That freakish looking exo-skeleton creature isn't looking well these days.. Somebody toss that bitch a sammich and some oreos.

The only time I watch really news in the morning is on Saturday, when I watch Saturday Today in New York between 9AM and 10AM. Pat Battle is the anti-Couric, as she doesn't come off as a total bitch, but instead a nice person. On the rare occasions that I do watch morning news on weekdays, I have seen enough to say this: Al Roker is the one who holds the Today show together.

Bob Schieffer in drag would have been a better choice for CBS, as he actually improved the CBS Evening News, not that I watched it that often.

As for Sue Simmons, she is great on Live at Five and at 11 with Chuck Scarborough and it would be a sad day when she departs.

Sue Simmons Forever!

She is without a doubt my favorite news anchor of all time, possibly the only one I even have an opinion of at all other than one of hate or indifference. (i.e., I HATE Diane Sawyer, and I'm indifferent to Katie Couric.)

ann curry totally got the shaft.

A better fun fact: Meredith Viera AND Matt Lauer will be reunited Today, as they also worked together in the early 80's at WJAR in Providence, RI.

What's the deal? What kind of off screen antics have people seen from Katie Couric?

See ya, Katie. Ive had enough of her. She used to be fun, now she's all full of herself. Ann Curry is good reading the news, but she has this awful habit of interrpting everyone as she's interviewing them. Campbell should have gotten the job. She's good at the hard stuff (she fills in for Brian Williams) and she can do the fluff too. Merideth isnt cutting it. Who will the yentas on the view get to replace her?

I really don't think replacing Katie with Meredith Viera is going to work. Meredith is just plain annoying, especially when she's trying to be serious. NBC should have replaced Katie with someone already in the network. I think Campbell Brown or Natalie Morales would have been good candidates. I'll never be able to watch Today again. It'll never be the same...

I can see it now. Meredith Viera interviewing someone and she asks, "Is that your final answer?"

The real question nobody has asked yet is...will Meredith be wearing underwear when she moves over to NBC or still going commando?
