"Truck No Match For Local Nanny" Ugh, don't you think that headline is just a bit flippant and tasteless? I'll bet that even the Post wouldn't use something like that for someone who was run over by a truck. The accompanying Mary Poppins picture is also ridiculous.

#6, I get what you're saying. As a parent myself, I did think she would have been an even 'awesomer' nanny had she known the Heimlich. However, the most important thing is how a caregiver values your child, in my opinion. Skills set aside, she seems to have genuinely loved that child. I would feel lucky to be employing someone who felt that invested in my child. She also may have known CPR, but was too frantic to act. Who knows...I do think I will be taking infant CPR classes myself though.

No offense, but if she had been properly trained in the Heimlich maneuver, she would not have had to run to the hospital, would not have fallen, would not have gotten hit, etc etc etc... I mean, if an adult can only go approx. 6 minutes without breathing, what was she thinking running to hospital? The child would have died en route. If I was the parent, I would be pissed that she did not know basic first aid. And put my child more in danger by running across 2nd Ave. into traffic.

The most intresting part of the story was that former police officer Danny Rivera was a member of the Pennsylvania Special Fire Police which of course made me wonder what the hell that was when I saw the logo on his truck, as it sounds rather fake, but a quick Google search reveals that it is apparently real despite the wacky name.

I was wondering if her employers covered her health insurance or if she was an off-the-books employee, like so many nannies. If she was, I hope they do the right thing and pay her bills.

Interesting story... it harkens back to the original hero-nanny story when a building collapsed on a nanny/baby, and the nanny covered the baby with herself or something...not sure on the details, but it was also the case that highlighted Bugaboo for its tank-like qualities and made it the only acceptalbe stroller to have on the island. After that, the times wrote a story on nannies' strongly maternal attachments to their kids. maybe they'll write another one now.
