March 31: A Short Introduction to Wine
Join the folks at Tasting World as they give you a down and dirty wine primer in just an hour. By the end, they claim that "you will exit the class knowing how to taste, evaluate and communicate about wine." This is all fine and good, but what really caught our eye was that they are looking for wine pourers for future events -- which means you get to taste and learn about the wine for free. 6:45-7:45pm, Tasting World, 307 West 38th Street, Suite 1910. Register by phone (212-629-8529) or by sending an e-mail to register@tastingworld.com with your contact information, or purchase tickets online. If you're interested in being a pourer, contact them by phone.
April 2: Excursion to the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture
Spring is in the air -- we can feel it. What better time for a field trip? Join the 92nd Street Y on an excursion to the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. You'll start with lunch at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, then hear from the chefs about how they use organic and local farm products for their creations. Afterwards, you'll tour the grounds and talk to the farmers themselves. Roundtrip bus transportation to/from the 92nd Street Y is included. Meet at 10:45; bus leaves promptly at 11. Tickets are $125 and are available online.
April 3-11: Dine In Brooklyn Week
Even as Brooklyn's menu prices creep slowly and steadily towards Manhattan's, there are still bargains to be found. During Dine in Brooklyn week, over 170 participating restaurants will be offering 3 course prix fixe meals for $20.06, with a few even offering special "2 for $20.06" menus, where two can eat for $20.06.
Full list of restaurants is available online, but our favorites include Luz, Applewood, Fornino, Maggie Brown's, Alma, and Scottadito (who will be introducing a new organic menu starting during this event).
did anyone see this link http://www.brooklyn-usa.org/Remberberwhen.htm on the brooklyn restaurant week site on how to know you're from brooklyn? too bad that now it means you couldn't afford manhattan anymore, didn't want to be in manhattan anymore, or both.
