So I am walking through the living room,on my way to the kitchen,when this band on t.v. catches my eye.I stop dead in my tracks.I cant stop looking at them,espesially this one guy,the lead singer{I find out later its name is David}
and as far as there musical capabilities were concerned,it didnt catch my ear as anything special, but that dude, that guy, creepy looking.
I mean ugly meets scary with a pinch of half dead. His band mates had this geriatric hippie look as did he,but I mean his was so much worse.
I had to think to myself, this must be some kind of joke.I couldnt stop looking,I was obsessed with this dudes odd looks, so I bypassed the kitchen and went straight to the internet and soon found out they were called the New York Dolls. They sure fit the New York part but dolls is pushing the hell out of the envelope!
As a fellow musician there music to me sucked, but their looks were over the top! So if there bombing on the music charts they can always make some money as a side-show in the carnival...
Is it me or will people listen to any-kind of crap thats out there? I mean their music actually sold albums......Jacked up world!

Well everyone goes to your house
to shoot up in your room
Most of them are beautiful,
but so obsessed with gloom
I aint gonna be here,
when they all get home
They're always lookin' at me,
they wont leave me alone
I didnt come here, lookin for no fix!
I been houndin' the street all night late baby
Just-a lookin for a kiss
I need a fix and a kiss

Had to break it out today...

True, it was more of a cram-pit but the standing around stuff up front only lasted for the first half until David lectured us that "You're all like a golf audience". I took pictures of the elderly fans who did stand back when the next generation got more active.

And, while it is true that they pre-date CBGB's, many of the bands that came out of there were heavily influenced by the Dolls. Besides, it's not like they can play Max's anymore anyway.

Damn... David looks like the Crypt-Keeper.

Can't these bands just stay retired or broken up? I like remembering them in their heyday... next thing you know, they'll be releasing a crappy new CD and doing some reality show...

Actually, the most fitting venue for these guys was Max's Kansas City. They never played CB's, were never a CB's band. But, it's all we got left.

The mosh pit was stupid and anachronistic and out of place, but it was better than the alternative, which is an audience so silent Sylvain commented that it was the quietest CB's had ever been and that it reminded him of a golf audience.

I took the photo of the setlist for Lawrence and have my own flickr photostream of the show at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jukeboxgraduate/sets/72057594093322894/

And finally, idiot, JT did the heroin. Not David.

There was definitely no mosh pit last night. Mostly a bunch of old dudes with cameras, Bob Gruen included.

FYI: I stopped taking photos around the time they played "Trash" because I wanted to jump into the mosh pit.

Aren't more than a couple of these guys dead? (As in in-the-ground dead, not just looking like it like David does).
