Two For The Hart

2006_03_sharttrophy.jpgJaromir Jagr is putting together the greatest offensive season ever by a Ranger. With one more goal and one more point, he will be the single-season leader in both of those categories. When he gets a goal the crowd erupts in chants of “MVP”. While there is no denying Jagr’s amazing season, we shouldn’t hand him the Hart Trophy just yet.

That’s because Henrik Lundqvist is just as worthy a candidate as Jagr. Think about where the Rangers would be without him. Lundqvist was brilliant again last night, coming in for the third period and making big save after big save to keep the Rangers in the game. He stopped two breakaways, one late in the third period and one in overtime to get New York to the shootout.

Once they reached the shootout, Petr Sykora scored on the Rangers’ first chance and Lundqvist stoned the Sabres on all three of their attempts. The 5-4 win puts New York back into first place by two points with 10 games to go; a position they wouldn’t be in without both of their MVP candidates.

Henrik Lundqvist is going to be a SUPERSTAR. He's a freaking ROOKIE right now. Let's hope he stays with the Blueshirts for a while.

Hart for Jagr, Vezina and/or Calder for Lundqvist, everyone's happy. A Stanley Cup for the Rangers would be kind of nice too, I guess.

Just as George Mason won't win the NCAA tourney, neither will the Rangers win the Stanley Cup.

Our beloved rookie netminder will be the next Mike Richter. Jags takes Prucha under his wing, and the kid will soar. The Rangers called this a rebuilding season, so I just hope that with a modicum of success, these guys don't get the idea to sell the farm and gamble away the future.

calder for hank would be so excellent, but alas, it probably wont happen... most likely Ovie from the Caps.

I hope I'm proven wrong though.
