Watermain Break Collapses Street; CHUDs Eat SUV Driver!

2006_3_suvcollapse1.jpg

Okay, the part about the CHUDs isn't confirmed-- yet-- but the rest is 100% true. A watermain broke at the corner of 73rd and 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge, and a passing SUV got sucked down into the ensuing sinkhole. NY1 is reporting that the driver of the SUV escaped serious injury. WNBC is saying that the underground watermain could have been leaking for days, sweeping away dirt, until the SUV finally drove over the shell of the road and collapsed it.

Oh, and all R/N service in Brooklyn is messed up: "Due to a water main break at 77th Street, r train service is suspended both directions between 95th Street and 36th Street. n train service is operating local between 59th Street and 36th Street. Shuttle Buses are operating on 5th Ave between 95th Street and 36th Street. Also passengers may utilize the B63."

I think Woody Allen once said, "New York doesn't need a better mayor... it needs a better plumber."

I just knew that all the SUVs were going to hell!
