Big Apple Grapple Like Over the Top?

2006_03_soverthetop.jpgLet's step away from some of the more popular sports for a second. Move aside basketball and your NCAA Tournament. Take a chill pill baseball with your World Baseball Classic and Spring Training. Yesterday the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum hosted the Big Apple Grapple, which featuring the some of the world's best male and female arm wrestlers. All battling for NYC's King and Queen of Arms. Unfortunately, there are no results online for this scintillating display of strength.

We secretly wonder if the competition was like the 1980s movie Over the Top. Wrestlers fighting for the love of their sons. Probably not. And they probably didn't get all crazy with the leather strap either. Perhaps the biggest question is whether Over the Top was Sylvester Stallone's worst movie. He's got quite a long list of stinkers, so it's very possible that he made a movie worse than Over the Top. Gothamist is going to have to go with Judge Dredd.

Update: Still no results, but Samuraiphotog has a fun set of pics of the Grapple, like the one below, here.

sylvester is in a lot of crappy movies, but at least he often writes his own crap. He has a long list of writing credits. This list has a new film written & directed by sylvester about edgar allan poe, starring robert downey jr. Maybe there's hope for sylvester.. or maybe it will feature scenes of edgar arm wrestling death.

i can't wait for rambo 4.

thanks, kacy.

Pugsley - you took the words out of my mouth. Stallone can do the longest list of shit of all time, but his acting/writing in Rocky is pretty excellent.

Even Dolly Parton's talent and personality couldn't save "Rhinestone" from Stallone's ham handed acting. It gets my vote.

Why blogs won't succeed with stronger editors, Item #1,345: Over the Top was an '80s movie ('87) not a '90s one.

Oy.
