Best Hatemail, Ever!

2006_3_hatemail1.jpgThe Gothamist mailbag is always an amusing read. Most of the emails are friendly tips, but once in awhile we do get some hate-mail. Remember that silly Opinionist piece we wrote last month about abortion? That one has definitely generated its fair share of negative comment. Take for instance this one, received with the subject line "Jerk!" this morning:

You slumlord, capitalist pig! Carving up female bodies isn't good enough, you have to slobber your dollarclutching gooey bloodstained hands in the pit of mangled decaying flesh to satisfy the vultures of that slimepit, Times Square! How many dead prostitutes will it take to appease your filthy moneygrubbing bastard killer hands! You'd sell your grandmother and her grandmother and the grandmothers of the psychologically sick and morally destitute abortionists to please the mob and the landlord scum of NYC. I hope your dog has an abortion, and your goldfish and that when they exhume you they find that somebody pulled a real weirdo and performed an abortion on you and the landlord you're going to be buried with. Grubber! That's the whole truth, the real reason for abortion, any kind of abortion is the money that buys a casket to hold you and your landlord. God help you. You are the most nauseating version of a prochoicer that I have heard of in 30 years. Get your hands off poor women!

Now everyone is entitled to their opinion, but let's get our facts straight, people! The Gothamist mascot is a cat, not a dog, and since he's a boy cat, he can't even have an abortion. So there!

wow, an anti-choice rant that has nothing to do with the facts. never seen that before...

I am so jealous. I live for good hate mail.

in your piece, "Hotels should offer weekend packages-- get an abortion, see a Broadway show" was comedy gold
in their reply email I seem to be a bit lost but I will reply to what I believe is a question even though it doesn't end in a question mark.
"How many dead prostitutes will it take to appease your filthy moneygrubbing bastard killer hands!"

Thank you.

this is the lamest Hate Mail I've ever seen. it's not juicy, well written, well thought out, nor does it have any classic "Roast their stomachs" lines that the Iraqi's use. This dude should be sent to HateMail college.

I agree. New York's Convention and Visitors' Board should come up with some "Female Freedom" weekend packages. Could end up being quite good for the local economy. Let's make our blue state bluer than ever!

Christopher X. Brodeur would be proud.

On top of that Don, we should certify 'approved coat hangers for abortions' and toss dead foeti in the streets as confetti

I think that's an outtake from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Can anyone check that? You know, one of the castle scenes with the French dude who taunts "I fart in your general direction."

Now that's a serial killer in the works. The hookers along I-95 had better watch their backs.

Landlords can do abortions? Does it count if your living rent-controlled?

I didn't know you guys had a goldfish.

The stuff you learn on the Internet.

Well, at least you know "The Gothamist" works. Keep on writing, Jake!

Never mind which side of the abortion debate you fall on, I find it very sad that people can be so flippant about ending a pregnancy. Hotels? theater tickets?? Profits!? Good for business!!?? Where is the compassion for people who are going through a very difficult time that will stay with them the rest of their lives? What's next "hey honey, why don't you get pregnant so we can get a free trip to NYC, you get an abortion, then we can go take in a show afterwards" You may be making your blue state even bluer, but at what cost? Keep in mind that a democrat for president hasn't won a majority of the national vote since Jimmy Carter in 1976 (Clinton had only 42% in '96). With this as a platform don't expect that to change anytime soon. PS I voted for Clinton to so this isn't some conservative rant.

I just went back and re-read the original opinionist piece. After three months all I can says is, wow. I'm still appalled at how heartless and insensitive that post was.

And not to rehash an old debate, but I still don't understand why it is we insist on making the focal point of the abortion debate whether or not there exists a "constitutional right" to an abortion, and not how to go about reducing the horrifying statistic Jake so callously flaunted (74 abortions for every live 100 live births in NYC!?).

Darren: "Where is the compassion for people who are going through a very difficult time that will stay with them the rest of their lives?"

That is a different board.

Too late.

Here comes another Abortion debate.

Yawn...

hr: What board would that be?

Jake, you're a troll on your own site. You're a troll of the web. You love this "hatemail", don't you? Ahhh, the attention.

While I agree that Gothamist is certainly a "capitalist pig" for a lack of better term, the author of the hatemail would have gotten much more respect if he/she brought up the issue of abortion shelters for women vis-a-vis homeless shelters that are actually viable in the city.

The author could have further expanded criticism on the opinionist's narrow focus of middleclass/upperclass women who can afford these 'fabulous' abortion packages, compared to others who are still "enslaved" financially to afford such services.

That´s something that hapens all over the world. We always see things like that, here in RJ, Brazil. We can´t forget: there are unsex people in all world!

I was responsible for none of this. Nice to see that Gothamist staff is still fanning the flames of it's own hatred self-hatred?).

what a coherent and well worded point. i think we will all have to reconsider our stances on abortion now.

just kidding. this is an awful example of grotesque imagery just for the sake of turning heads. this is an issue that is divisive and appalling enough without propaganda or sensationalism. be reasonable.

Who keeps selling computers to all the earnest people?

Cancer jokes are funny, abortion jokes are fuhunny. Topic, serious; Jokes, fuhunny. And before some strident idiot tells me what's what, shut it: I've had both. If only I had them at the same time. Imagine the discount at CheapTix.

Hatemail is not a word. Hate mail is written as two words.

desq, anything can be funny if it's done right. This wasn't done right.

I would think that Gothamist hate mail would be more suitable towards their Atrocious grammar.

One thing that God and I can agree on is that Gothamist's spelling and grammar is deserving of hate mail. Buy a freakin' spell-checker, or at least hire an intern from Columbia Pu.
