Adams can speak out all he wants as a private citizen. He misrepresented himself as a speaker for NYPD. Get that? Or are all of you people too retarded to know the difference?

This is the same department that uses undercover provocateurs at peaceful political protests, likes "preemptive arrests" and intimidation tactics for nonviolent demonstrators, and hates Critical Mass cyclists. This is the same administration that spat on the constitutional right to peacefully assemble (at Manhattan's largest usable space, the Great Lawn) during the Republican convention. In short, this is a police department (and a Mayor) that absolutely hates free speech. As much as Gothamist loves using "we" instead of "I," that's how much they hate free speech. Accidentally shooting a robbery suspect and not telling -- no biggie. But speaking out on important political issues? Forget it!
