Ooooh, Shake Shack Opens Early

2006_03_fshakeshack.jpg

If you haven't eaten lunch yet, drop your fork and head over to Madison Square Park because Shake Shack has opened early! The official opening date is slated for tomorrow, but as noted on Chowhound, someone is already eating their first double shack burger of the year. Mmmmmm. Gothamist just drooled all over our keyboard. And hell, even if you ate already, nothing screams dessert like a double shack burger. That or a nice thick shake.

We wonder if the early opening is anythign like Andrea Strong's day working at the shack. And if you haven't eaten at Shake Shack before, maybe you can read the review at A Hamburger Today to get your mouth watering. There are reports on Chowhound that the shack will be open until 6 tonight.

Update: The wonderful Jesse Chan-Norris took a trip to enjoy his first shack burger of the year and as photos show, there was no line. Ladies and gentleman, a once in a year event - Shake Shack without a line. He also found out why they opened early: "According to the employee that I spoke with, they were practicing over the weekend and felt confident enough to go for a trial run today as practice for their official opening tomorrow." There are more photos in his flickr set.

OMG! I go there all the time becuz I hear it is Carson Kressley's fave joint!

overrated in my opinion, and the lines are insanely long. a better treat is a cheesesteak from the little-known deli marche around the corner on fifth avenue, and you can be in and out of there in five minutes.

are the mushroom burgers good? I'm a vegetarian.

user-pic

anyone know how late they're open this evening?

user-pic

What time is it open until today? anyone know?

hey smitty...no, the mushroom burgers suck. eat meat like a normal human being you idiot.

smitty - their mushroom burgers are really good! it is a lightly breaded, deep fried portabello with melted cheese on the inside. the downside is that i always feel like i'm headed for a heart attack after consuming one.

Gotta love the Skackapalooza!!!!

Oh I hate you! I am stuck at home in Brooklyn with no means by which to acquire either a burger or shake. It looks soooooo good.

And, really, melted cheese on the side? That is awesome.

Technically, I guess, even a handful of people count as a line but I've been to Shake Shack quite a few times without having to wait an appreciable amount of time. (Actually, many of my experiences have been like what's shown in the photo used here. There are a number of people waiting but it's not, as you point out, really a line.)

Go before noon or after two thirty and you won't find much of a line. All the 9-5'ers tend to take lunch between those hours which creates a killer line.

Thanks, Tym, love you too. Enjoy your coronary!

I've never had to wait in line - but then i'm not foolish enough to go during "lunch rush." Hold off a few hours people...

Has the line outside Trader Joe's subsided yet?

I know everything will be ok as long as there's shake shack.

I went 3 times today. I also got 5 gift cards for my trouble!!! woohah! A trick to shake shack is to give them a name like "John' or "Mark" and order the cheapest thing like a burger. When they call the order for another John who's probably ordered an entire meal take that shit. you can get 20 bucks of food for like 2 bucks. Another hint is that the shack burger is a waste of money. just order the cheesburger with the works and it's the same thing but a dollar cheaper.

Jesus Christ you are going to Hell.

In all seriousness, this has to be one of the least efficient kitchens I have ever seen. I've seen the waiting for food line have 20+ people, and the folks inside are still making hot dogs one at a time. I'm all for personalized service, but this place needs to kick their employees in the ass and get their work flow in line.

I went for the first time yesterday and...mmm, good stuff. And since they gave out those damn gift cards, that means I must go back. ...When there's no line. Here are some photos I took.

I love the Shake Shack, easily the best burger in NYC if not anywhere. But am I the only one who has to take a massive shit afterwards?
